And I guess it would pay to photograph something that people can actually relate to, rather than something they've probably never seen before, let alone in macro. But I like my shot, and was pleased to be able use a proper lens in front of my P&S camera. |

And as I said in a previous thread, the winners will be all SUPER extreme macros, just a hair away from being microscopic. Pun intended. It should have been called the "Who can find the tiniest object and magnify it the most challenge." But in fairness, some of the best shots I see are of that variety.

I'm confused.. I'm guessing I simply don't understand what the heck a macro is. I always thought a macro was a close up photo, with the print size of well beyond the actual size of the item. Am I wrong? My horrible scoring suggests so, though I haven't had any comments to say it... so it could just be that people don't like the subject matter.
My subject is under an inch in diameter, and it fills most of the frame. Does it not meet the challenge then? |

yeah...i think mine is suffering because its not magnified, even though it is technicly a macro
Here is the 4th place from Macro III challenge:
(object is no an extreme closeup and got 4th)

I have not felt to well this week so I didn’t do my best and I knew mine would be low average, so I’m happy where my score sits. But then again why complainâ€Â¦I’m just happy to be able to participate. I think I am developing a little bit of a style [be it good or bad] so some may see my photo a have a good guess its mine, if so please leave a comment. LOL

Help me understand. I was going through the photos for the macro shots. I thought a macro shot is taking a picture of something really small and making it look larger and/or catching detail on a very small item without seeing a lot of noise in the photo? I just want to make sure before I start voting. I did not enter this contest because I was trying to do an eye macro photo, and the lighting my home sucks
:-) Good thing, I did not do an eye :-)
Thanks

Augh, I'm dying here :) Been voting for the last two hours and still not to 20%, but it's fun to have so many great pics to choose from.
As far as my own pic - dangit - I told myself I'd be happy with a 5, and I'm not far under it, but on the other hand I haven't seen any others yet with the subject I chose. |

Don't feel too bad. You know what they say about opinions. At about 64 votes I have yet to crack 5. I keep hovering at about 4.9, then in 1 vote I drop to a 4.7 or less then back up, so I've even gotten some 1's or 2's for my photo. Macro lens never arrived in time as apparently there is a shortage of Sigma lenses in the USA so I just did a close-up. To really make people vote me low, I even tossed in shallow DOF for good measure. |

Don't know what you've got in there, but this image isn't really my idea of a macro. Although the lighting you went with here is very nice! |

I was so close to 6, then some tankers came across my photo, so it tanked a little. Now again some good fairies brought the score up... :-D

not bad in such a huge bunch. i must say the number of watches, nails (tack etc) and leaf closeups is tough. i have to work against scoring on the basis of "seen it!"
i too am troubled by the "what is macro" query... but some of the entries are really NOT meeting the even very liberal notion of macro that i am trying to use.
i'll be very interested in the scoring overall. and i will occupy my usual happy place in the midsection.

My entry in macro isn't that macro, I took the shot with a wide angle lens (17-40mm ) and I am happy with the result so far. Its at 5.90 and well anything better than my average is always welcome ;) |
