A quick question: Will I want to update my Firefox tonight with the new release? Or is it just a finalized version of the beta and I don't need it? I'm not at home, so haven't been able to take a look at it. Has anyone downloaded it? Thanks!

Here's the changelog since the last major release ...

It's always advisable to keep your browser as up to date as possible, so if you have the time/bandwidth go grab it.

I installed the Windows version at work today and apart from the new icon for Live Bookmarks I can't say I noticed much difference.

It's Firefox.
It works.
'Nuff said.

Do you just install it over the existing one? I could never go back to IE!!!!! Bad enough that I have to use it at work still.

Yep. It will pick up all your bookmarks, etc and carry on where you left off.

I'm a developer so I have to install it for erm testing and stuff ... even though all my work is Unix based and doesn't use a browser!

I've played with this version (1.0 for Mac OS) since it came out. It appears to be fairly fast (faster than the current vs. of IE and Netscape), stable and responsive. While it loads quickly, the drawing of pages is slower than Safari.

The interface is clean enough and lacks the retro Windows look of IE and Netscape, but hardly matches the integrated elegance of Safari. Since Mac users are used to many of Firefox's touted features like tabbed browsing, these features alone wouldn't really make a difference.

All in all, a great alternative to IE and Netscape and, probably, the browser of choice for anyone on Windows. I intend to keep a copy on my Mac for comparing sites alone, not for daily browsing.

Same here, my day-to-day browsing needs are met very well with Safari. Only thing missing in Safari that I can get with Firefox is the Live Headlines feature.

Not that you have any choice about keeping IE on your system... IE can't be uninstalled.

Any way to get the older Firefox back? Now my extensions are incompatible with the new 1.0.
