Sorry about the rather opinionated comment. I've been trying to word my comments better than the one I left you, and meant to come back and refine it, but somehow missed doing so.
What most of your commenters had to say rings true. The tilt is a distraction here, and the photo could have been much stronger with just a little change of perspective, or even just a rotation in post-process.
Someone once gave me advice on how to use tilting effectively in a photograph. Told me that anything between 0 and 10% was a mistake. That it would look like an accident, and that it would come across as just sloppiness. If you choose to use it to effect, always go above 10% in your grade.
Of course, I never figured out how to measure it effectively. lol.
Anyway, there's some clarification for my original thoughts, which are my opinion only. |

Occupation - Mother 24/7by kristat123Comment: Following up on my comment:
Seems that the only comments you didn't mark as helpful were the only ones that were actually trying to help a little. Shame, that.
I know it's hard to separate your love for your child from the objectivity of your art, but it'll actually help you very much in the long run if you can manage to do so.
This photo could have benefited a lot from just a very little too. More use of natural light, more attention to toning and contrast, a little more experimentation with angles and pose.
Strive to improve always. |

I see someone else had the same suggestion I did. I wanted to point it out though, because it's something I find myself doing a lot, and I like to pass on my experiences when I can.
So I hope I helped somewhat. The expression on the dog, however, is really great. |

I expected this to do way better. One of two 8s I gave in the challenge.
Congrats on finishing over 6 though. This would look fantastic as an 11x14 behind your receptionist! |

Well, I guess I was the only one that thought the pose looked forced. Hope that didn't offend you.
Great finish, and it *is* a nice photo. |

Well, congrats on finishing fairly high. I hope you weren't too offended by my comment, but the thought sticks with me. I can only imagine where this would have finished in a challenge called "Perspective"! |

I thought this would place higher too, and when I got to page 2 and still didn't see this, I was a little shocked. It was an 8 from me, but I guess you can't win them all.
Brad has some interesting points. I didn't notice the finger creases myself, but it seems a couple of people did. He's right though, now that I see them, it's almost all I see.
Anway, I like this shot, and it was one of my highest scoring, so be proud, no matter where it ended up. |
