| 02/18/2009 01:23:30 AM | Shell Stationby madcrabberComment: I like this. A great image of times gone past. Maybe a little dark. Would have been hard to lighten much, but a ittle would make the Shell on top of the building stand out a little more, while avoiding blowing out the lights too badly. Shame it wasn;t Advanced Editing then you could have achieved it easily.
Composition is great. One of the best images. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 02/18/2009 01:21:24 AM | gas station mirrorby sohappy_02Comment: A different perspective, but it doesn;t work for me. The elements surrounding the mirror distract. Some cars in the station may have helped give the image some colour, which is is really lacking. |
| 02/18/2009 01:20:00 AM | Pump You Up by moonwellComment: Simple, and yet elegant. Different to the rest. Seeing something differently to what the others have seen, and then capturing it well.
Control of the lighting would have been a challenge, but you have done that well.
Maybe having the top of the pump where the nozzel goes into the bowser couold have improved, rather than the spot it is here. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 02/18/2009 01:03:09 AM | Our Lady of Exxon: get your gas and god here by BudyaComment: So will you fill up my car while I am in the Temple?????
Hopefully people look closly enough at this photo to see the pojt of it, and how it meets the challenge, rather than the 2 sec glance and wack you for it. Well spotted to get this type of picture. Shame we can't control the weather, as the sky is a little bit of nothing. A nice blue sky with a cloud would have added some extra colour into the photo whcih could have helped you as well.Good angle. probably not possible to isolate the steeple from the background buildings (bloody buildings always in the way)
Like the car just leaving, ht esign is there to see. Very different and a good change from the standard petrol station shot | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 02/18/2009 12:58:45 AM | Hoary rivalsby cicarulezComment: I don't know whether you used a tripod, as is seems that the photo, especially in rhe lights etc, is not as sharp as it could have been. I feel there is too much dead space in the middle with the footprints in the snow. Teh rain does not help the photo either (but not much you can do about that). I can't see the signs for the servos, the prices etc, which could then have added to this....... | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 02/18/2009 12:55:33 AM | Big Boysby tjmuellerComment: I like this. The best I have seen so far. Well exposed with tricky conditions, great composition in the photo. Colours are pretty good (a little more punch int he red might have helped) Border is good and works for this. Very little to suggest. Well done. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 02/18/2009 12:53:03 AM | "Fill 'er up" circa 1920by bobnospumComment: I would have attempted to keep the end of the nozzel in focus. I like the background blurred, as it draws attention to the pump handle. The details in the rusted metal are great. A slightly wider DOF would have made all the difference as this could then have been one of the standouts of the challenge. Still reat composition, and PP. Like the colours and Duotone used. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 02/18/2009 12:50:50 AM | Overexposedby GemGemComment: Yes it is!!!
I am not a fan of overexposed photography, especially when it is THIS overexposed. It does not appeal to me, either achieved through the camera, or through PP.
You have managed to retain the Shell Shop label, and a couple of the numbers. I wish I could make out the pumps etc. I think you have taken this from an angle, that with correct exposure, it could have been an interesting shot, but as it is, it doesn't work for me. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 02/18/2009 12:38:46 AM | Smiling gas station ownerby kakaoporComment: Hmmmm, yes, you have tried to tie this to the Challenge with the title, but that doesn't really work for me. She looks a little young to be a gas station owner. The shirt does have connections to the title, so I can see that meets the challenge. Not a fan of the angle of the shot, the stance, the background, or the colours.
Meeting the Challenge more strongly and in a more obvious way, photographing against something that is not distracting (plain wall perhaps, or just the curtains, not the roof as well) PP the colours will all help later challenges. |
| 02/18/2009 12:34:08 AM | Out of businessby vbrownjdComment: You need to use all the available pixels for your image. The longest size can be 640, so before submitting, adjust the size. If the image is too big in file size, adjust the quality to get the size. I can't see the details here, and many will mark you down for it.
from what I can see, the image is an interesting shot of a bowser, with the front cover off, showing the workings. Would love to see it larger to see the detail. |
