Agreed. Not quite "abstract". The image is telling but the blurred shapes have a way of distilling the incident into something more fundamental about associations and bonds or whatever. There are hints about the relationship between the dog and man that it is loving, not hostile or even indifferent. So we have that and it is rendered in simple terms somehow more precious than the normal clicheed dog/man image.
