very nicely done, just enough information to know what your looking at, and just enough mystery to truly be magic. 10

I think this is a stunning and moving portrait. The one thing I find could be improved, and it's only my opinion, is that the crop could have been brought up, not so much of his chest, and shown a bit more of his head.,,,

Greetings from the critique club.

First let me say, I love this shot! I know it is a flower but the colours and the slight blur make it an abstract that appears to be in a fire, or kiln with that red glow.

As an abstract and impressionistic image, it's a 10+ esp. if you rotated it to be just a bit more diagonal in the frame.

For the challenge,, well, I feel it need a bit more of the area to be very sharply focused to give a real feel of shallow DOF.
I think that is what held this fine image from doing better. I think it was better than 4.7 but what do I know?

If the stamen (?) was very sharp and the rest has the lovely blur you have here it would definitely be a top 10 in my book.

Very nicely done.

Greetings from the critique club.

hmmm, it's a nice shot of the stuff in your garage. I'm afraid it really doesn't fit any definition of art that I can conjure up.

Good lighting, you can see everything. Composition, umm

Oh,, I have no real constructive things to say here.

This really feels like a snapshot with little thought to working within the parameters of the challenge.

Sorry.

THis is a really fine image. Not too much to critique here!

Actually the more I look at this, I have no suggestions for improvement.

Congrats on 4th place.

I gave your shot a 5.

To me the major draw back is the tilt. Yes, many cookbooks have tilted images, but this feels as if the pie will slide off the table. It is not an enhancement to the image.

The pie itself is not that attractive. Too much crumb topping not enough apples and the ice cream should have a little melt to it so it looks real. There are too many crumbs on the plate.

If your going to tilt the entire scene it should be done so it shows more of the pie. More of a looking down slightly from an angle. This is shot straight on which makes the tilt even more noticeable. Also changing your angle should help eliminate what looks like blur on the top of the icecream. All of the food should be in focus, or only a very specific area if you are going for extreme shortened DOF.

Bring the entire image closer to the edge and closer to the viewer.
The apples in the background are good, no need for the out of focus cinnamon in the foreground, it's just a distraction on the checked tablecloth.

Food styling and photography may be one of the hardest techniques to perfect.
