Death Do We Part

I gave this an 8 instead of a 10 only because of the placement of the rings. The concept is so beautiful and moving and the colors, lighting, depth and detail are extraordinary, but there is something about the rings themselves that just doesn't work for me. Perhaps if one ring (the lady's?) were placed on the table it would more dramatically emphasize the parting and remove some of the stiffness of the stage. Of course, if you were to do that, you would need to rework it so that you could identify the table surface, otherwise the ring would just be floating out in space...or, hm, come to think of it, maybe that would have its own implied significance? In any event, this is a beautiful photograph and one of my favorites of the challenge. Good luck.

Great shot! Very professional feel to it. Looks like a poster for the latest horror flick. I wouldn't change a single thing. A 10. If you don't ribbon with this, I'll be as shocked as the poor slob at the bottom of those stairs! AAAUUUGGHHH!!! (oops, just to clarify, I'm not calling you, the photographer, a poor slob...I meant the imaginary victim from whose POV this would be taken--HE'S the poor slob! LOL!).

Golly, I wish I'd seen this a week ago...I would've asked you if I could swipe it for my desktop wallpaper! Very cool image. Perfect for the holiday. The soft focus on the lettering, although perhaps intentional, bothers me a bit. Other than that, I'd give you a 10 (I would anyway, but I can't vote in this challenge). Good luck.

The brightness of the letters against the black is very appealing and I love how the colors bring out the depth in the carving. I'm debating whether or not it would be better if the toothpicks were somehow cleaned out since they are a bit of a distraction but then again, they show how the effect is achieved on a real pumpkin. Either way, it's a fun shot. I like it.

I can't vote because this is for members only and I don't even have a camera, but I just had to tell you this is one of my favorites of the Halloween challenge. I love the idea as much as the execution. The ghostly affect is quite cool and amber lighting really ads to the mood. I think my only recommendation would be to turn your subject just a touch in order to get a bit more of the face showing (especially if it is made up in some ghostly manner) and maybe reach out an arm as if knocking on the door. This would break up the silhouette some and add some "action" to the scene. Good luck with the voting.

I love the dreamy effect you have created here. The colors are just great and you have established a wonderful mood. I don't really care for the big square piece of wood tacked to the post in the foreground and I want to take a look at this on a better monitor so I can see if there is better contrast between the horse's front hooves and thee dirt, but other than that (which I did not dislike enough to subtract even a single point for), this is, for me, one of the best shots in the challenge. A print suitable for framing as far as I'm concerned. A 10.

I have seen a lot of dogs shake off water this way but I have never once thought of it as being graceful...no matter what your title says! LOL. Nevertheless, I will look at the photo for its technical merit. I think this kind of blurred motion shot is something one either likes or dislikes as a matter of personal taste. I don't usually care for it although you seem to have done a good job of it (for what I know about the it). The thing I like best is that the blades of grass in the background are so well focused which give a nice counterbalance to the movement.

This is the third time I have returned to this entry trying my best to figure out what it is. All I really see is hair and a pole of some kind but it is impossible for me to establish exactly what the image is or in what context I should be recognizing it as relating to grace--of any kind (I'm afraid your title isn't helping much). I do like the lighting on the hair and how it brings out the highlights so beautifully. Other than that, it's just not all that interesting a shot.

This is an interesting abstract and I do like the intense colors, but the photo fails to generate any emotional response from me. It is perhaps technically sound but I am having a very hard understanding your interpretation into the challenge. For my own personal taste, I prefer the picture speak for itself rather than having to wait for the end of the challenge or a PM explaining to me what I SHOULD be seeing. FYI, after making these remarks, I am raising the score from what I originally gave you since I do see some merit here that, upon first review, I overlooked. I know I have a tendency to be harsher on abstracts which is why I came back to look again.

Oh wow. What a fabulous photograph this is. The sailboat looks almost ghostly as it fades into (or out of) the fog and the lack of horizon adds a wonderful, mystical feel to it. This is a stunning, moving shot to me. Good luck with the challenge. I hope others see the beauty you have captured here. 10
