| 12/27/2003 12:38:55 PM | Sundew: Tiny Carnivore - Macroby kayceeComment: Hi greetings from the critique club, here goes my thoughts and ideas on your shot. First of all, I love the dew drops!! I think your subject is a little too central and would benefit from being shifted a little to the right, I also think if it was cropped a bit more tightly it would help to highlight the actual subject and cut out the frivilous leaves on ground. I also wonder if there would be a way to get the Sundew to be a little darker, or perhaps a bit might contrast may make it 'pop' out a little more. You obviously have a great eye to find such a beautiful and small subject to shoot, which is great!! Another suggestion may have been to bend that leaf that overlaps the flower out of the way as you took the shot, leaving your subject unobstructed. Keep up the good work noticing the details and interesting subjects around!!
Good work! |

| 12/19/2003 11:22:55 AM | Just a Dropby TerryGeeComment: Greetings from the CC, a very appealing shot. Excellent focusing job, managing to get the droplet as a focus as well as the tiny bits on the icicles as sharp clear details. The over shape of the icicle is interesting, the monotone color sheme works well to unite your shot, keeping any distractions away from the viewer. My only possible criticism might be (and this is just an idea), to mirror the image putting the droplet on the right where the eye tends to go more and perhaps leaving a bit more space around the subject, especially on the left and top just to give it a little more breathing room. Overall very nicely done, as agreed upon by most folks giving you a very good score! congrats and keep up the good work. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 12/14/2003 03:22:51 PM | Winter will be here soon...by Kaja LundComment: Greetings from the CC, I love the feel of this shot, it is wonderfully composed. They are whimisically placed, yet have a feeling of intention to them. The larger number on them on the right, helps to weight your photo in that direction, making it very pleasing to the eye. The reflections are also wonderful. And despite this being 'soft focus' the sharpness still shines thru. The highlight of your shot is the foggy/silvery haze that hangs over it, giving it the feel of winter and chill. Your shot really does create a mood and a feel. I think it is a wonderfully executed shot. I am at a loss to tell you how it could be improved to be honest. The calm and emptiness add to its beauty and simplicity. Excellent work!! | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 12/14/2003 12:16:00 PM | The Bocce Playerby JPRComment: Greetings from the CC, the color in your shot are really great, certainly IMO the highpoint. Matched by the intense look in your subjects eye, the focus and concentration are superb, I am curious if he is posed or naturally captured here. The composition is very well done, creating a diagonal from bottom right (with leg) to upper left (with arm). The sharpness is certainly present, even though 'softened'.
I suspect if this shot was in a bocce ball magazine challenge it would win the ribbon. I think the subject does not necessarily convey 'softness', being a sort of burly dude : ), I do not tend to rate shots on topicality and while this one has been, softened, the feel of his activity is not soft really. I think this is a very well done shot and my criticism is minimal in that it is very well done. Keep up the good work, you seem to have a good grasp of the technical aspects of photography as well as an ability to capture some emotion. |
