Barber at workby griz210Comment: The face and shoulders are nice and sharp however the OOF hand is a bit distracting. Slightly more DOF would allow the hand to be included in the area of focus and make for a better environmental portrait. |

Elephant & Zebraby pcphotosComment: Yes, the DOF is shallow, however I think there is not quite enough DOF. Only the trunk of the elephant is in focus. I think if the entire head were in focus the image would be more interesting. |

Cold Railby mikeryanphotographyComment: Good use of shallow DOF to isolate the gull however I think that the image is a little underexposed. Using a highlight/shadow adjustment or curves/levels I think could help with this. |

Faux Fleurby nerdynotdirtyComment: Though the part in focus is nice and sharp (good texture in the fabric) I wonder if more DOF would make the image more interesting. As it is, the background objects are just blobs. A little more DOF would give them a little more definition. |

Extra coatby tomcatComment: Cute little critter. Bichon? The focus is just right on the eyes though the DOF I think could be a little wider so the hind legs are also in focus. |

Winter Berries 1by shutterpuppyComment: The red berries in the middle are quite sharp and for the most part the eye is led right to them. I wonder if the image would be more dynamic if the angle of the shot were down one of the branches rather than a side view through the bush. |

Bulletby zoolComment: Good use of shallow DOF though I wonder if the image would be more dynamic with a view down the rifle barrel. |

Looking Aroundby ApeeComment: Interesting idea having only one ey in focus though to me the OOF eye is a distraction. |

Walk on the beachby tbangertComment: Even though the foreground subject is sharply focused, the bright OOF areas draw the eye due to their brightness. Also, the division between bright and dark is very central so the image feels a bit static.
What may help:
higher vantage point - this could possibly allow you to include more of the beach and less of the bridge
fill flash - to add vibrance to the seashells |
