and 13 birds in the distanceby jjbeguinComment: The interest in this image comes from the colours on the ground. Cropping the sky almost all the way to the top of the mountains would give it more impact. 6 |

natural orderby lakritstrollComment: Great depth of field. For me the upper left corner of an image always provides the most impact so putting the end of the leaf in that quadrant would greatly improve the impact of your image.
The parallel lines in your image are fairly weak though present..

Sundown Gridby dinotechComment: I love the colours. A bigger image would make it easier to see the detail. |

Parallelby boxjockeysComment: Very strong image. If the white areas at the top were cropped out it would be even stronger. |

The Old Home P;aceby boyte1Comment: *Critique Club*
General: Nice documentary shot. It would be interesting to see different aspects of this building inside and out maybe as a collection.
Composition: The building is well positioned within the frame though maybe cropped a little too tight on the sides. This was probably done to eliminate as much of the bright background as possible.
Exposure: This is a difficult situation with the bright background. About 1/2 stop more exposure would probably have brought out more detail in the wood.
Impact: On a scale of 1 to 10 I have to say this is about a 6. More impact would probably be achieved if there was more contrast to show off the detail of the wood.
Good find.

Aloneby didnthaveacameraComment: Lovely reflections. Your main subject is a little too central though. Showing more of the lake and less of the rocks would probably have helped here. Use of exposure lock or manual exposure and focus lock would allow you to do this. 6 |

midnight in the gardenby maisiebComment: *Critique Club*
General: This is a good idea to try and capture the white flowers against the dark background though the detail in the background is distracting. Also, the focus seems to be a bit off.
Composition: Due to the detail in the background the image is very busy. There is no one focal point. One way to solve this would be to zoom in, reducing the amount of background. This would also decrease the depth of field therefore emphasizing your chosen subject.
Exposure: The flash has produced a very harsh light on the subject in the foreground. This is probably due to being too close to it for the power of the flash. There are couple of solutions here, either backup so the flash does not wash out your subject or use flash exposure compensation.
Impact: There is not much impact in this image for the reasons stated above. Increasing the zoom could probably help here.
Attempting shots in very low light can be challenging to both the photographer and the camera. The camera can have a hard time getting a focus lock. The photographer can have a hard time adjusting the exposure properly when using flash. Experiment with flash exposure compensation and, to aid the camera in focusing, maybe use an extra light source on the main subject (other than flash).
Keep shooting.

Balancing Actby cpanaiotiComment: I want to thank everyone for their comments. I agree that the focus is a little soft. This is probably due to the use of the diopters. Without them though I wouldn't have been able to get close enough. As it was, I had to crop this image out of a larger image.
asitv, the lighting is just the evening sun, nothing special. The focus point was set right on the bug. |
