Legacy of the Saintsby goinskiingComment: I am a huge fan of the aspect ratio that you get when using long focal lengths on landscapes like this. And in this particular image, it is not just aesthetically pleasing, but also powerful. The nature's sheer force seems to overpower man's structure, yet the cathedral has a power and majesty of its own. The black and white treatment lacks the usual contrast, but somehow contributes to give a timeless look to the image.
Excellent shot. 10 from me and my personal blue ribbon in the challenge. |

New Orleans Iron Fenceby grbryaComment: There's something in this image that keeps drawing me back, for some reason I can't really identify it's just so aesthetically pleasing. I like the textures and the many levels of focus all the way to the nice bokeh with just the right amount of highlights. |

Red Jeans - 800 years out of fashion.by PaulComment: I'm guessing you're headed for a 4.x so I have to leave a comment - I think this is a great shot. I like the juxtaposition of old and new, the muted (but not completely desaturated!) colors in the back and the bright reds on the jeans. Your image is definitely about old and new at the same time, congrats on having the courage to draw attention to the new by both color and title even though the challenge is about the old! |

1 2 7 5 A.D.by TrollManComment: One of my favorites in this challenge, I really like the composition. Well balanced, leads the eye up and down around your subject and, above all, simple and powerful. |

Benefit St. by Pipe_DreamComment: Yes, you have indeed captured the feel of this place, at least for me. The combination of beautiful colors in the buildings and the white in the snow work very well. The composition is strong as well, with a nice foreground element that adds interest and good leading lines into the background. |

100 years-old cobble streetby carofoComment: In my own shots I often struggle for this "heart of the street" intangible, and rarely achieve it. You have done it here. I guess you had to go really close to the asphalt to find the heart of the street though :) I have never been able to make this viewpoint work for me, but you have used beautifully here.
I like the B&W treatment as well, and the richness of the image. I am slightly doubtful about how well it meets the challenge, but still a 10 from me and my pick for yellow ribbon. |

The old and the newby PixelstateComment: Yes, your juxtaposition works wonders in this image. The composition, though very center-heavy, is great for your message as is leads the eye where all the people are converging, to the symbol of old, majesty and power. Well done.
I normally prefer a bit more natural toning (did you put in a touch of HDR there?) but I like how your tones add punch to an already powerful image. 10 from me. |

Brooklyn Bridgeby supacohenComment: I am jealous. I live in this city and not in a 100 years (forgive the pun) could have come up with this shot. Everything works perfectly: foreground, background, bird, sepia toning. Maybe the composition is a bit heavy on the right side, but that's just nitpicking.
And most importantly I love the overall feeling of the shot. 10 from me and my pick for yellow ribbon. |
