Gull.jpgby IvoryComment: Nice shot! Almost looks like it was painted instead of by camera. I guess some purists might say that using the rule of 3, the gull should be off center, but I love the way it is in the splash of light from above. Great shot. |

Touched by the Evening Light by librodoComment: I cannot remember ever seeing an image that affected me more. Not only is the subject "angelic" but you have captured her in a way that epitomizes what portraiture is all about. She appears magically in another world.
I wish I had been around to have voted on this. I hope that you will make this print available for purchase. It is wonderful.

Songs of Loveby taljComment: Without trying to sound like Am. Idol's Simon C... I think you could do better than this. The idea was okay, I just don't like the final product. Sorry! |

A Promise heard by the Wind, the Earth, the Skyby CitadelComment: Myself, I would have included the complete parts of the couple instead of cropping (whether in the actual photo or in editing) since they are the main story of the photo. By cropping out the feet etc., you have made the scenic shot the central piece and the people and their positioning as one of happenstance. Otherwise, a nice shot. Like that it is in B&W. |

Eternalby hizcutieComment: I just like this one for no real reason than it is pleasing to the eye. The implied story behind the photo is a pleasant one as well. |

The daily newsby JohnnyflashComment: I like this photo. It embraces a photo-journalistic idea with a poignant statement. I like that you decided to do this in black and white. Gives it a more story-telling aspect, showing the whole photo as the subject where color would have created a more piecemeal feeling. Way to go! |

Pathway to Pikes Peakby smellyfish1002Comment: An unusually stirring photo. I don't know why, but when I first saw it, the woods scene from Wizard of Oz popped into my head. Good drugs in the 60s and 70s I guess.
Anyway...you have captured Mr. Adams style indeed. The main thing that he caught on film was an overall idea and complete feeling. In all of his pictures, even his earlier ones, there is a central object (yours I would think is the road) that first captures the essence of the print. But if you look at, or isolate, sections of the prints there is another story to be told. You have done that quite well.
I met Mr. Adams when he gave a "special" class in Glenwood Springs, CO back in the early 80s. He asked us to bring some of our favorite work and he would critique them. Some he obviously didn't like and he nicely told you how you could improve on them. Some he liked and he would tell you so. But for a very, very few he would tell you that he liked your photos... and give you a pat on the back. You would know you did extremely well. Myself... didn't get a back pat. With this photo... you would have!
Congrats!! |
