Fallen Delightby RoosterComment: This is an interesting and mysterious image, even if it is staged as I suspect. I guess the moral is, if you are going to stage it, put some imagination into it. I'm not sure what the glowing object is, which is mysterious part. I like the composition and the choice of sepia for this image. I'm not sure if it captures a serendipidous moment but I like the photo very much. |

In The Middle Of Nothingby KrisComment: This is a nice effort at spotting an honest serendipidous moment. I like the abstract quality of the image. It looks as though the flowers are tumbling through the composition. The little daisies in the bottom don't stand out and there isn't enough contrast for the abstraction to work. Nice effort! |

Yes!!! I found a fish!!!by kuarkComment: Ooh! If only this were focused more tightly! I want to like this photo more because it is an honest moment of serendipity captured by the photographer. Sadly, it is just to unclear at first what is going on. I give high marks for effort. |

Serendipityby Dim7Comment: These clouds look like they're moving fast and the photographer snapped the shot in time to get the contrast of the orange against the blue against the black silouhette of the trees. It doesn't look manipulated so I'm inclined to believe it is an honest moment of serendipity. I like it. |

The Age of Innocenceby KaliComment: This image works overall, despite some focus problems. By placing the subject in the upper right corner and cropping out any distracting details, the photograhper shows they know their stuff. It really works on a compositional level. It looks as though the photographer was trying hard to get the relfection in sharp focus and overlooked the fact that the girls face and most of her jacket were out of focus. I can't help feel an opportunity was lost when they photographer failed to make the contrast of the red of her jacket and the wet blacktop the main focus. My choice would have been to sacrifice some loss of sharpness in the reflection for more focus on the girl's face. The girl's expression, the sharp contrast of the black-and-white polka dot boots and the swirls in the reflection almost make up for it. Overall, this is the best I've seen so far and I would like to see more by this photographer. Kudos! |

Follow the Leaderby SonifoComment: The photographer caught the geese in the act of 'goose stepping' so to speak so this photo works on a thematic level. Unfortunately, there is too much lack of contrast between the subject and the background to make this work as more than a humorous snapshot. That can't be entirely blamed on the photographer since they had to work with the limitations of the surroundings but the geese just aren't sharply focused enough. |

Tree Treasureby PoobaComment: This is the third staged photograph I've come across involoving an unlikely (i.e. unbelievable) discovery of cash. My problem with these staged photos in respect to this theme is that they go directly against the idea of serendipity. It doesn't take a lot of imagination to stage a photograph involving found money. However, it is a moderately interesting composition on an abstract level so this photographer has done it a little better than the others I've rated. |

A Bridge To Serendipityby TikicharmComment: I don't understand how this bridge represents the theme of serendipity. As a composition it may have worked if the overall image were in sharper focus. As it is, the colors and textures, particulary of the wood, look washed out and bland.
Comment added later: I don't know if there was something going on with my monitor this afternoon but I swear the colors looked different to me when I voted and commented on this. Looking at it again, I would have to agree with the comments that it is oversaturated in color. I stick by my comment that it lacks textural detail in the wood. Serendipity after rain by gwsallenComment: This is a lovely image and honestly represents the theme of serendipity. The subject is tightly focused and the composition is good. You can see the tension in the drop of water as it is just about to drop off the stem. The slight bluring of the bug's antenna works because the rest of the bug is sharply focused. it gives the impression that they are quivering. |
