Ruinedby heidaComment: One of my favorites of this batch so far (and I've only looked at 6!). I'd consider buying a print of this. |

Houses in the seaby heidaComment: Gorgeous. I've wanted to visit your area of the world for years and your photos really bring that home. |

40by melismaticaComment: Originally posted by BruB: This photo doesn't capture the idea of the passed challenge in an interesting way. There isn't anything of actual visual appeal about it, so a close up shot of it doesn't make for a dynamic photo. |
Whether or not this photo has visual appeal is a matter of taste.I liked the bold colors and the graphic interest of the number 40. Both my husband and my daughter saw this at separate times and spontaneously reacted with, "Cool!" I'm not saying it is an amazing photo I just don't think that it can be so easily dismissed as having no visual appeal. Perhaps not to you but it obviously had appeal for me because I made the picture. Some people made good points about there not being a subject and I'll give them that. To me the subject was the color scheme. I don't think an image always has to be literal; this is a tree, this is a bird, this is a fly, this is a birthday party, etc.. Sometimes it is about discovering pleasing colors, shapes, and design in the mundane. The challenge was to photograph something one has never photographer before in a location one has never made photographs before. It certainly qualified in that respect. To me, it shows a new way of viewing the mundane or thinking outside the box. The number 40 can actually have quite a bit of significance that doesn't require me to point out for the observer. |

Daily Grindby melismaticaComment: I was surprised to see this place in the 51% percentile. Not because I don't like it --- I do. I thought I was getting slammed in the voting. I'm starting to catch on that there is a curve system at work. I happen to like the light coming in over his head. I know it's considered a 'flaw' but I think in this case it adds to the atmosphere of the scene. If I had my druthers there would be more detail in the machinery and no cord hanging down over his head...but if you read my shot details you'll know I was lucky to get what I did.
Thanks to the folks who commented! I feel pretty good with my ranking all things considered. :D |

Curious Cowsby e301Comment: I love a good cow shot and this counts. I just wish we could see the black cow's eyes. The red cow almost reminds me of one of my dogs by her expression. |

One Foot Underby FotowereldComment: Great colors and skin tone. Humorous with out being precious or too-too clever. Fills the frame beautifully. |

Fenced...by scwortmanComment: Really well done composition. It fills the frame perfectly with nothing extraneous.I like the simple color scheme of green and browns with the thin wedge of pale blue.
I had a similar fence shot I did for this challenge (not as good--it's in my portfolio if you feel like checking it out) but I didn't enter it because I wasn't sure it counted as an unusual viewpoint. I decided in the case of this photo it did. :D I'm curious what other voters will think.

The Prey's Perspecitve by JoelHSmithComment: Excellent for this challenge. Several notches above similar approaches. Beautiful capture of the cat; its eye, whiskers, fur. Also, good call framing it so you only see one eye. |

Hideby nbortonComment: Beautiful color saturation, great design sense. Only wish the plastic pieces were black instead of grey but that is a minor nit. |
