This is using shallow depth of field. The background is blurred. Deep DOF is when everything in the seen is in focus to infinity.
The subject is fairly interesting. The lighting is a bit flat on the hands and the focus doesn't appear to good at the lower edge of the subject. This chunky border is very unattracttive. Next time, try using the maximum size of 640. This image is rather small to make much of an impact.

This does not show Deep depth of field. It shows shallow depth of field. Deep depth of field is when the background is in focus to infinity. It's an interesting subject but I don't think this is the best approach to photographing such texturally interesting objects. Try lighting it from the side to capture all the nooks more dramatically. Also, try moving in closer so that the mushrooms become more significant to the frame.

What can I say? This is not the best execution of a forced perspective shot, for one thing. Generally, you choose a very simple background so that you don't need to do all that Photoshop manipulation. What I'm seeing is a very heavy, rather clumsy use of the smudge tool on the background. I can't figure out why the bottom kid's head is flattened. I know it is supposed to look like the other kid is sitting on his head but it just looks wierd. The way the bottom kid's shirt and pants fit it looks like his head is twisted on backwards. Very disorienting. I'm guessing that you intended this to show Deep DOF by its necessity for this trick.

Even though redheads are not supposed to wear pink I think she looks just fetching. Little girls can get away with so many fashion faux pas. :D Lovely!

What a beautiful little girl she is! Love the redheads. Lucky you to have such a lovely model in your family. Her gaze is so direct and confident. You've captured a real 'personality' portrait. It's going in my favorites.

I loved this shot when I first saw it. I thought I had commented on it with a rambling story about a Great Dane I had like this but I guess I edited myself and never made the post. :D

Here is the comment in brief:
Love the perspecitve, i.e, the dog is the same height as the buildings
Love the pose, could never get one of my three Aussies to pose like this in a million years
Love the dog, I had a dog like this (Leo, short for Leopold which was inspired by the Bugs Bunny cartoon) and he died in a stupid, tragic way.

It was actually entered in the Abstract challenge and doing the best I've ever done in a challenge but it was DQ because of a time/date stamp error. This is the same photo with slightly different post-processing. It was originally taken for the Rust challenge. My Rust entry was DQd for the same reason.

Thanks for taking a moment to comment. :D

I thought this shot captured the unusual viewpoint without the rotation. When I rotate my laptop clockwise, I like it quite a bit. BTW, that guy is nightmare fodder... ;D

Too bad this didn't do better, I gave it an 8. It was one of my favorites of this challenge. I think the white appliances look good for this shot. They are so pure white they lend weight to the subject in a way that is hard to explain. I think it is that she seems cold and distant, so far away from the viewer, and the pristine white cabinets are a fitting part of her environment.

I do admit, I hadn't noticed her face had been burned out. That is kind of odd. When I first looked at this I thought she had dark hair and had her head turned away looking out the window. When I looked closer, after reading a previous comment, I noticed the burned out face. That kind of marrs the effect a bit. It sort of reduces it to creepy, stalker level. Oh well, it's powerful at any rate.

Too bad this didn't do better. I really liked it quite a lot. I guess the birds were too scruffy for most tastes. Well, I gave it a 7.
