A Midsummer Night's Dreamby zeuszenComment: This was my only 7 (very high for this challenge since I don't like the technique-it looks like you did the selective desaturation in the composition which I prefer). I had a feeling this was yours. Really beautiful! It's almost like a painting. Message edited by author 2004-06-28 01:06:45. |

Dateline: Colorado Springs, CO - Rain! Glorious Rain!by photomComment: I don't quite get the newsworthiness of the headline. Has there been a drought? To me, this looks like a entry from someone who was unwilling to stray from the comfort zone of their favorite subject matter and go out and make a journalstic photo. If you were categorizing this for the galleries would you honestly put this in the photojournalism category? It's a lovely photo and I have no problems with it asthetically but it fails to meet the challenge.

As hungry as youby gnatComment: Is this meant to be a story about children going hungry. The headline is too vague for journalism. Since the photo on its own doesn't really have the feel of a journalism, it is hard to evaluate how this meets the challenge.
The plate and table are awfully prominant in relation to the child. Then there is quite a bit of negative space created by the wall. I think I get what the intention is, I'm just not sure it is working. The child is just to far off in the distance and out of focus. |

We Are The Champions!by eikidigiComment: This is a good sports photo and it meets the challenge but the headline could use work. It's not really a headline. |

Atlanta's Finest Escort Olympic Torchby elemessComment: I hope all of Atlanta's finest aren't this out of shape! Good lord!
This might be a bit more effective if we could see the torch and some onlookers. The cropping is extremely tight. These guys just aren't compelling enough to draw my interest. |

Outlook looks bleak for popular boat rampby mandypComment: I would see this more as a journalistic photo if there were a human element or some more immediate indication of something newsworthy. Those few missing planks don't quite cut it. It's a very nice photo but it doesn't quite work as photojournalism in spite of the headline. |

Too Old to Walk in Humane Society Charity Walkby ddmckinney1954Comment: Who is too old? The dog or the lady? Why is this news? This might be more convincing as a journalistic photo if the headline made sense. As it is, it looks rather like a decent snapshot. It is a bit overexposed, we can't see the dog's face so the main interest is lost, and the guy is out of focus. The framing shows promise. Next time, get the dog's attention so the viewer's interest is drawn in. The people just aren't compelling enough subjects and even if they were, their faces are effectively obscured by sunglasses. |

Hurricane hits townby RUEDISCHMUTZComment: Hurricane hits what town? Why be vague? It is journalism, meant to inform.
Photographically, it isn't bad. It looks very undexposed and maybe a tad out of focus. The tree at the lower edge of the center of the frame is very distracting and tends to draw the eye. |

Local Artists Display their Talentby NodeComment: A human element would make this much more interesting. Show some people milling about, or the actual artists. This is a pretty dull and literal view of a gallery. Most of the artwork is obscured by glare. The rest of the photo is just a boring view of the gallery floor, ropes, and some plants. |
