The Train Station...by NikonJebComment: Loved the lighting and sharpness, and the forms and for the most part the composition. Wished the P in ennsylvania wasn't cut off, and would have liked to have seen where those stairs led. Gave you a 6 |

Walschaerts Powerby PhotologistComment: Nice detail and B+W conversion, Les ... this was my favorite of the "wheel shots" in the challenge. Should have done much better than it did. |

Get off the tracks!by snafflesComment: Interesting. Thought this was an IR shot during the challenge. Nice reaction to tough shooting conditions to add some interest to a difficult shot. |

personal trainingby posthumousComment: very cool, great blur and sharpness, and a fun take on the challenge. Surprised this didn't score better. Wait a minute, then again I'm not. That's DPC for you. :-P |

Iron Horseby rodfulkComment: What a great old engine, and the color treatment worked well to hide the lights ... I kept looking and looking to see if I could find them and I couldn't! Great subject, though I think this would have worked a bit better if you would have either chosen to go in much closer to focus in on some of the detail and the shapes and forms of the engine rather than the whole thing, or stepped back a bit farther to show us the whole engine and some of its surroundings. |

Pulling in to the Stationby WriteHeartComment: Nicely different composition and scene. I like how you kept the one spike anchoring the frame in the lower left, and just enough of the station to give us context to follow the line back up the track. The off kilter frame works for me, only nit is I it could use just a tad more sharpness on the foreground rail, perhaps by shooting at f/16 or smaller rather than 5.6. |

End of the Lineby dsternerComment: I liked how you composed this, the wide expanse of the land and the lonely engine off to the side, seeming abandoned as the ragged bushes grew up around it in the middle of nowhere, or so it seems. Nicely seen scene that should have done better in the challenge. |

"Waiting To Be Humped"by QuigleyComment: I like the tight crop -- its a bit different for this challenge, and worked well, particularly with the shallow DOF you used. My only nit is the headlamp cut down the middle. Shows a nice bit of detail of your train, and colors and sharpness are spot on. |

Life with lavaby inuyashakibaloveComment: Another DNMC, but an oobie take that I can overlook (as with the other similar shot in this challenge). Like the focus ona single lamp, but think you need to come in closer and wait for that big blob in the middle to break into several smaller ones, and adjust exposure to avoid blowing the highlights out. Lighting is too harsh; needs something external to soften it. White balance needs to be adjusted to remove the green cast, and next time flip the lamp around sound the ding on the base isn't showing. |

Lava Lava Every whereby KBFishComment: I get your oobie take ... abstract motion inside the lava lamp. Still DNMC (cuz you didn't use the camera to create the motion), but I'm willing to overlook that. What I can't overlook is the overall green-yellow cast to the image (which could be corrected with a simple white balance adjustment), the dust or spots and soft focus on the leftmost lamp, and the trapped negative space between the three lamps. A tighter focus on a single lamp and some external lighting, or a different setup of the three lamps would have really helped here. |
