Under Constructionby stephanComment: The reflections of the watering can in the window are a real problem for me here. Otherwise the lighting is excellent, and the composition pretty good. Not completely sure that the window frame and the outside helps or distracts from it though. |

From the Beer Gardenby urbriderComment: After quite a bit of beer, presumably. Kind of like the colours, kind o like the sense of movement, but it looks like an accidental shot that kind of fitted the challenge: a couple of giveaways - no apparent cropping, and the blurred figures head being cut-off, and all of a sudden it starts to look throughly pointless to me. Sorry. |

Entrapmentby bbarranComment: Don't like the poor focus - can't see how it helps with the near abstract composition. Colour, or rather the washed-out quality of it, is intersting. |

Lakeside Gardenby erin_m02Comment: very harsh light here: doesn't help with any kind of mood. Feels like a 1960's postcard to me. |

Helophilus pendulusby UberFishComment: Not sure that such extremely shallow DOF serves this shot well - though it gives god depth to the image itself, it's just a bit much. |

I On Uby siggithorComment: Good solid technical work - though perhaps lacking in any real inspiration as far as the challenge is concerned. I think lighting is a bit of an issue - it's very flat and very frontal, and that takes away a lot of the three-dimensionality of the subject - almost as though you were afraid to get any shadows in the shot. |

Ring of lightby purpletrollComment: Critique Club time for you ...
I guess there's a certain creepiness to this image - suggestions of mines, and of dark places underground, and of surfacing. The nebulous quality of the presentation suggests dreams, or rather nightmares, with thier attendant element of hope, of possible salvation. There are elements that speak to me of rottenness - like peering into a bottle of soured milk in a desperate 3a.m. hunt for something in the fridge; or like scrabbling in the gutter in a confused drunken haze, unable to focus, wondering blearily if that light is a car, or a train, or might just perhaps be the bedside lamp and actually one is safe at home in bed.
If it was eant to be a figurative image ... I'm impressed that someone was able to work out what it is - I couldn't. I really don't know what else to say - I'm not about to start listing the technical faults with the image: they're legion, and surely very obvious.

shortcutby spidermanComment: I thought this would be right up there - which i guess it is, but i was thinking ribbon time, so slight commiserations from me. The desaturation trick, which i usually find just to be a cheap way of adding impact to a shot, is so well done here that I barely registered it. excellent work. |

Manhattanby MarkS224Comment: Hmmm ... Not sure how to vote. I think there would have been more impact to a shot that was entirely filled with buildings - though i can appreciate the thinking behind including streets, trees and a famous building. |
