This is the 365th day I've been submitting to dpchallenge - and a very nice way to celebrate the anniversary; thanks to all who voted. Also feels like a consolation for all that time spent commenting :-) Special thanks to everyone else who even tried to do that, but who hasn't got the consolation.

Touch the Flow

Now this is good photography. Great rhythm, detail, feel and balance. Found photography, rather than set-up? I kind of hope so, out fo some (probably misguided) sense of what constitutes 'proper' photography. Don't misunderstand this, but I'm not sure the real detail of texture comes through - it's more on a grand scale of the shaping of those roots and that leaf than the contrast between the two surfaces. Still very good stuff though.

Good and ominous tones here. great light too - perhaps the most subtle use of natural light I've seen in this challenge. Great sense of threat here too - almost a 1970's Hammer movie feel. The more I look, the more I like ...

Wooden Lady

Nice contrast of the blue world and the warm colour of the wooden figure - like imagination and reality in a drear world. great sense of the smooth polishedness of the figure too, and the highlighting of it works well. Do like this very much.

fitting to the challenge, for sure. I guess people won't like the photoshopping - though what bothers me more than the colouration os the shadows - they're just too neat looking to be real.

Great moment to capture, fitting for the challenge. Final image lacks a level of detail at least however, which takes away quite a bit of the impact of the shot.

What this lacks to my mind, is a moment of light. The illumination across the scene is absolutely even, very little graduation of shade anywhere: that leaves you without much evidence of texture to work with in your shot, and thus a mundane scene produces a mundane photograph. Compositionally the wooden thing really removes the eye from your subjects - without that the shaping of elements within the shot would be fine.

Like a lot of things about this - the high contrast, grainy effect (actually comes from the background, I think), evenness of light in the 'un-lit' bulbs, the slightly 'off' composition. Has a near-graphic quality to it. Would personally have tried to get a more 'pnotographic' progression of light across those bulbs, but that's just a personal thing.

Good photography - but not half as clever as the guy who set that up :-) I'm not sure about the narrow cropping - not sure that it doesn't actually lessen the impact of the shot. I'm sure there's good reason, but it does leave me thinking 'why cut off the bottom of them?'.
