| 11/07/2004 07:58:50 AM | Searching for an Audienceby lousy_beatnikComment: So where is the world press photo exhibition right now? Love thhat shot of Colina - and taken for the most unlikely publication, being the Daily Mail in the UK, whihc is pretty much a sneering right-wing rag. I do like the efffect of photos in photographs, though I'm not totally sure about this one. He seems too dissociated from the rest of the image, not playing a part in the composition. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 11/07/2004 07:09:00 AM | Harvestby thatcloudthereComment: Good work. Woudl like to see a larger version, as i suspect the detail really tells, so it's a shame about the site limitations - but that also is what has to be worked with here. 7 | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 11/07/2004 07:06:43 AM | Mid-day Snackby sgauriaComment: Any real sense of texture seems lost here, quite possibly because of your sharpening, which has also produced those halos around the legs and antennae. I find tthe cropping alos to be a bit heavy-handed - more consideration might have been lavished on just what parts of the flowers you were going tto include/exclude - heree you seem to have concentrated entirely on the butterfly. |

| 11/07/2004 07:03:02 AM | lonelyby Pictar500Comment: Like this very much - great sense of late night road-trip, the strange emotions of travelling, the strange and enhancing views one sees from trains, busses, and the like, that never seem to present themselves at any other time. Pity about the text though, and the inevitable disqualification you'll get for that. Might you not have cloned it out, or are you making a point? |
| 11/07/2004 07:00:27 AM | Wisdomby FanderComment: Not convinced about the extreme shallow dof here - a misplaced trick from trendy portrait photography just adds a sense of confusion to my eye, and I really want to see every detail of the fantastic light and subject you have here. And wisdom? She looks more scared or worried to death, to me. It has a lot to say about age, this shot, were it not for those two elements. |
| 11/07/2004 06:57:37 AM | Hold tight, we are almost thereby RUEDISCHMUTZComment: Good capture, good detail, effective compositionally. I like the posed feeling here (obviously it isn't actually posed, but it has that feeling). You could absolutely sell this to whatever zoo you took it in, I would think. Not sure why I don't rate it as a top shot - it's obviously done with great care, patience, expertise, and the rest - I guess I'll just have to say I don't like it much, despite appreciating all that ... sorry. 6 |
| 11/07/2004 06:53:15 AM | No Turning Backby EyesOnlyComment: Good quality of light, though I can't escape the feeling that it would have been more effective without the framing of the wing-mirror - surely the real effect of these shots depends on the contrast between the reflected world and the direct world, and you've allowed us to see none of that 'direct' world. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 11/07/2004 06:51:15 AM | Winter in Autumnby annasenseComment: IR now ... I think it depends for so much of its impact on never having seen it before, and for me I don't find enough other interrest here: the composition is strong, effective, and the quality of light you've caught is nice, but not really a winner for me. |
| 11/07/2004 06:48:51 AM | Happiness is, A good Barn.by mfairbanksComment: An interesting thing, shot in an only moderately interesting way, IMO. I would certainly have worked on the foreground more - it's really quite blank and lacking punch, certainly when compared to the sky and the trees. The light is harsh, too - you might also have worked to bring out more shadow detail, as I don't think there's much interest in the graphic shapes of the roofs alone. |
