Love the composition to this and the way the face, the hand and the guitar are what stand out, everything else blends in. Well done.

Really cute expression...really shows personality and well shot from a great perspective. I know you're not in Canada! Looks like a summer's day there. :)

Awwww.....this really shows a curious and energetic personality. Love the shot. I think that perhaps, a bit too much window is shown here and might have been best, cropped a little lower??? Just commenting, not scoring

wonderful shot. Love the perspective but not quite sure that this would show "personality"...unless we're talking about the piano's personality. ;) (Not scoring, just commenting)

WHOA...this scored WAY too low IMHO!!!

The number of 1,2,3 and 4's are just ridiculous. It's a tremendous photo and very well shot. It certainly deserves a much higher score even if voters didn't see it as "life". I've seen so many shots shoehorned into a challenge that just because it was well done, got far higher than this.

Sorry, Jo but, it is a beautiful shot and you should put it proudly, right on the front page of your portfolio! :)

ETA: Perhaps, had you named it, "Life In Frozen Suspension", people might have gotten it??? ;)

I like the lighting and composition of this shot. It's really well done and the border adds a lot to the shot as well.

You know, it's ironic that we went through a huge discussion on "artwork" in a photo and what categorized a shot that is chiefly a shot of a piece of artwork. Throughout that discussion, it was debated as to what could be defined as a shot of a piece of "artwork" and what was acceptable within that realm. This is clearly a shot (very well done) of a piece of artwork as it is man-made/a replica. Yet, it placed 4th in the rankings.

Clearly, if a piece of artwork is well photographed, it will do well.

Congrats on your placement and in this shot proving a point that was so very much discussed in-depth, mostly against this type of thing. It's proven that it's all in the way that it is done and not the artwork that's the issue. :)

Personally, I don't think that the two photos can be compared in terms of artistic value. While the bird photo is clearly of a suffering/dead animal, there is also beauty in the shot. It's also not a shot that I prefer to see but, the entirety of that shot is not "gore". It's harsh and yet, has elements of beauty at the same time.

"Run over..." has only elements of gore. There is nothing else to focus on in this shot and it's that fact that differentiates between what a viewer will view as "art" and what is considered "gross". (Sorry, but I don't see Digifoto's comment of "gross" as being horrible or unfair. The shot hits a lot of people as just plain gore. Digifoto seems to have given her first reaction as her comment and I don't see jumping on her comment as necessary nor, fair to be singled out.)

Neither of these two shots are my cup of tea, purely because I prefer not to see such suffering however, if I were to have to choose between the two, the difference is clear. The bird shot does have elements that are pleasing to the eye and mind. "Run over..." has no other elements that are pleasing in any way. From my perspective, that is the reason for the low score on this one and yet the other can ribbon.
