Approximately Four Types of Pi

Clever. The title really clues me in to start looking for pi in its various guises. The high contrast of this photo add an immediacy to it; so I'm puzzled by its use as this does not look like it needs immediacy. The lighting is marvelous and creates a sense of scientific mystery. Nice composition and cropping and a super idea.

Pi holds all my pictures

When I see this image, I see circles, radii, and a storage disk. The lighting is fairly straightforward, not much mystery or anything, and the composition is almost symmetrical. And now I don't know what to do with these pieces I just described. I'm not sure how they fit together. Your title doesn't help me much. However, I do get an overwhelming feeling that pi is important here; I just don't know in what way. In other words, I find this image difficult to critique because I don't know the rules it has created for itself. Does that make sense? Best of luck!

I suppose you must be careful here, since you may be in violation of copyright law. It may also be against the rules as we're not supposed to take photos of other people's artwork, unless you add your own artistic interpretation to it, which you arguably have done here. I'm glad you added the DVD with the pi symbol on it--that helps this image and adds a nice balance to the whole. Juxtaposing the numbers with the void and larger pi sign works well. This image is difficult to critique because I'm not sure what is your work and what is the work of the graphic artist who came up with the film poster. Well, I hope that helps.
The Hand of Pi

The Hand of Pi

What works so well for me here is that the fingers are being used as kind of a proxy radius for the drawn circle, so it really is the hand of pi. Nice work! The ring distracts me a bit, as I can't see a clear connection to pi (though there is a connection to the finger!). The illumated pi on the back of the hand is a nice touch; I like how it is over exposed, giving it an unearthly feel. The image as a whole confuses me only slightly, since the image doesn't really convince me that a hand is the best communication of pi, though it seems to be a natural one. Does that make sense? Anyway, very nice work. High marks from me.

I have to admit to being both intrigued and confused at this image. Of course it is a literal communication of pi is, but I find the basket and toothpicks really interesting in relation to the cold numbers. You've also used the non-scientific color of red as a background, so my mind is every which way. Hmmm. That could be a good thing!

You quiz my geometry skills here perhaps? I like how the inner circle is framed by the outer circle here. The creative focus is really intriquing and tends to imply that pi requires exactitude.

Mysterious and interesting. I like the shadows a lot, and the colors are wonderful here. I think I'd like a little more information, though, like what the objects are and if they have a relationship to pi at all.

I have to admit to being a bit confused at this one, but I can see pi at work anyway, and I really like the composition, focus and lighting of this image. It would go well in an outdoor magazine!

Hey, wow, that IS a natural pi. I like this shot. The DOF is great and really sets the icy branchlet off nicely.

Hi and greetings from the Critique Club!

This is a very engaging and enjoyable image! The idea and execution are both excellent. It creates kind of a puzzle that is a delight to figure out and/or just look at. It is certainly symmetrical!

A few voters mentioned below that the reflection is just a tad out of focus. Otherwise, I find your composition excellent. The lighting is also wonderful as you've been able to get the light on the hand without geting weird light reflections on the mirror. I bet that was a challenge.

It is a very dramatic image, and the lines of the fingers are appropriately curled for best dramatic effect. The lighting is quite straightforward, though, and you may want to experiment with different angles and levels with this shot in the future to add even more mystery and drama to it. the tight crop is great and this in an image which you put, appropriately, right in the center.

I like this image a lot and voted it highly before. Congratulations on a well done photo!
