For this, I would have placed the subjects further left in frame. Smaller aperture would have kept both subjects in focus. A background with more than just white would have been preferable. I'm also bothered by the fact that the finger is pointing at the wrist instead of right at the duck. I know it sounds like I'm attacking your submission, but I'm really just giving my honest critique! I like the glasses....

You really did get several things right in this shot, but a couple of things stand out. It seems like the horse is out of focus - I say seems because almost everything seems out of focus in the composition. The other is the blown sky, but that's a minor quibble as it could have worked just fine if you had the focus right. You could have set a smaller aperture (f/16 or so) in order to get deeper depth of field, extending your focus to the background. This would have saved your sky & made the tree silhouette more pleasing. You would have needed a longer exposure, but that would have made drips on the water disappear & provided a smooth, dreamy surface surrounding the horse.

A little overexposed & the lighting is flat - yes, I know your outside & you could say you don't have control over the light (e.g. the sun) but you do. The first control you have is the time of day that you shoot. The quality of light & how it interacts with your subject is dramatically different at different times of the day. The second control is using things like reflectors & flags (black cloth) which work to shape the light for your subject.

Maybe that's more info than you ever would have wanted, but you never know...

PBS recently had a doc on ferrets that I found very interesting...

This is a nice portrait of your pet, and you titled it about as best you could for this challenge and, yes, technically there are toys in your shot - but the fact that an animal, not a toy, is the focus of the shot detracts a little for me.
