The Guitar Manby whiterookComment: I am afraid you are not going to draw the crowd nor steal the show with this one :-) |

Safe and Secureby CharleneComment: Very nicely done. Grain, duotone and softness work very well here.
I regret the senseless tendency of dpc voters to over-rate razor-sharpness, noislessness and eye-blinding saturation.
In the real world of photography you must make choices like the one you did, depending on the story you are trying to tell.
The same people who have voted 5- would have probably voted 7+ for this photo if the challenge was "grain". That means many voters will not see beyond the tip of their nose unless they are forced to. Message edited by author 2008-02-14 03:16:19. |

Moorish Temple in Snowby CharleneComment: You are getting better at controlling your exposures!!. This is well exposed, maybe 1/3 f stop low, but it could be corrected with curves an levels. Too bad there were not interesting clouds in the sky. With that lens you could try a wider composition at 18mm to get some ground. Maybe you did but there were some ditracting elements you did not want to show.

The Great Leapby CharleneComment: Too bad it was the same idea used by a few others. I am sure that has afected the score.
About possible improvements:
*better if one of the leather seats was not intersecting one of the poles.
*a bit shallower dof to isolate the main subject a bit more from the bg.
*duotone works fine but it eliminates the use of color to isolate main subject from bg, so some S/H adjustment could have been made to avoid the merging.
*a little tighter crop on top and left would have helped to get more detail at 640px dpc. Message edited by author 2008-01-30 20:15:19. |
