I hate to ask the obvious DPC question, but...what the heck is the object in the lower left, and why did you choose to include it in the photo? The rest of the shot is great.

The moon is great. It's sharp, nicely exposed, lots of contrast. The rest of the sky has some problems. There are a couple of spots of sensor dust, and it looks like you sharpened in some of the noise. You could easily redo the post processing, and have a great shot.

Technically, you've done a very good job, both with the original shot, and with the desaturation, although I would agree that the other stuff on the porch is a bit distracting. I think the problem with the image, and the reason that your score was merely "above average" is the subject matter. To me, it's just an empty chair sitting on a porch. It doesn't resonate emotionally, and looks like an exercise instead of being art.

That is a very cool tree. It probably won't score well because it's a little too arty for DPC tastes, but never mind. I like the directional light and the feeling of the wind blowing things around.
