Hi Terry
Sure like the sharpnes of the basket and the color and the scratches that are on it. . I like the color of whiteness of the eggs too, but can't figure out looking at it - did you intentionaly want this much of softness on the eggs?
Okay - I get it now. I didn't read any of your info at first - like to get my own look first - great idea! By the low scores, I guess everyone thought the same way I originally did, right?
It is a great shot and a very good imaginative idea, certainly different from anything else that I've seen with eggs so far. The short depth of field works well here as does adding the sharpening to get the grainy look.
Is there anything you could have done to reduce some of the shadowing under the top layers of eggs, front and back? I was thinking along the lines of a few real tiny pocket type flashlights? You don't have any shadows created by the basket that I can see. . .
You know, TerryG, it was obvious that most of the voters weren't intrigued by your photo. All they saw was that the eggs were out of focus and they wanted to move on to the next picture. It had no visual impact for them and they voted you down. They didn't know what you were trying to do, and neither did I. . . until you told me.
I've seen some of your work, and all I can say, is keep you chin up and keep plugging along, artistic quality is something that some viewers will never get to see in a lifetime, at least you know what it looks like!
Regards,
Ed

Hello Alexis.
You've take a beautiful photograph, but you have to keep an eye on your horizon and keep it leveled out.
Is the concrete Pier your leading line? Is it leading out to the Sailboats? Or are the Sailboats leading out to the Pier? You have to ask yourself this question, and perhaps move your camera around to get the shot that is intended. I'm not sure at this time that your photograph would really fit into the Challenge of Leading Lines.
Also, with the sailboats, the are moving around this area all the time, but perhaps you could have waited 5 minutes until that larger boat beyond the concrete breakwater/pier moved out of your way before taking your shot?
I believe your composition is well enough using the rule of 3rds, but I would have told that closest sailboat (to shore) to move further to the right before taking the picture :}(this is my sense of humor)
Photo is sharp at the flowers and grass and then fades out just past the 1st sailboat. . .
Colours of the flowers and grass are nice and rich
I like the ocean blue, but think I may have added a bit of blue and
may have done something with the sky - it seems just a bit too bright?
Finally: I like your work. It's a lovely photograph. You've used some imagination in obtaining this shot. Keep up the good work and continue doing what you're doing, one day everything is going to come together just fine and you'll start to receive 10's! !

Hi Sandler.
I don't know where to start on this, so to start with, please don't take this personally :}
I like photos to make me say "Wow!" Your photo does not. It's out of focus.
You should have "whitened" everything up, at least the snow a touch and then perhaps the egg another "touch" up.
There's no visual impact! There's nothing there to grab my interest, so I have to look to see what else I can see. . .
Technical qualities: The photo's not even sharp, it's not even in focus, the colours (in this case, the white's) don't even stand out and shout at me!
The low score of 3.9 on this photo may be telling you something. Is it an issue on visual impact that held your score down? There doesn't seem to be an aspect of this particular photograph to make it stand out above other shots.
Study other photographs that have been entered in the Challenges. You've got other shots that have scored high. What happened to this one? Keep trying. . . and keep up the effort.
Sincerely,
Ed |
