I might suggest waiting for a different time of day to shoot this, when the lighting isn't so harsh and won't create abrupt shadows. Also, I wonder how this might look if you brought the camera even lower, so you were level with the bird, and didn't crop the tail so tight.... however for all I know the background was too cluttered for lowering the camera angle to work. Just a thought.

I like the delicate contrast you have going on here, between the dark bird and the off-white background. That and the delicate details you've captured on the feathers make this a nice striking photo.
