To answer hojop25's query...

This bird, and many like him, inhabit a trail near where I used to live. So many people hike the trail and walk their dogs there, the birds have become quite tame and will eat seeds right out of the hand. I bought a large bag of seed at a local pet store and I always have a small bag of it with my camera equipment.

This image was shot in winter when the birds are especially eager to take food they don't have to forage for.

I also find that the best shots, especially wildlife/insects/etc. come from spending a lot of time in one spot. Animals get used to you hanging around if you don't move too much or make a lot of noise. Patience is rewarded.

I agree. This is a very nice piece of work. The textures, composition and balance of negative space with subject all work together to form a dynamic image. The only thing that I think it could use is a touch more contrast, to increase the dramatic tone a little.

You pulled this off beautifully. The subject, lighting and composition are really close. Even if this wasn't an homage it would stand alone as a great portrait.

What a cool dog portrait. I know how much these guys run around, so getting one to sit still for a shot is impressive.

The expression is great. Duffy looks like a happy guy.

Good execution, but it could use more contrast.

Melanie Doane? Great pic but I find the vertical lines on the left a little distracting. 6.
