I liked this photo, you did a good job of creating the feeling of moisture all around - the sky looks like it's about to rain, or just finished raining. The color of the ocean shows some storminess. The foreground seems as though it had remants of a storm surge, or remants of a stormy sea crashing onto it. I'm giving you a 6 for meeting the challenge and technical merit. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 07/25/2006 12:46:58 PM | Granite Oceanfront - Schoodic Point, Arcadia National Park, Maineby ucanoeComment: Great job! I found the rocks to be a little boring after looking at them for very long. It's still a gorgeous shot, I can feel the storm moving in from the color of the sky and movement of the clouds, and color of the ocean. I really liked the pool of water in the foreground, the color of it, and the small gull sitting on the rock. Just not one of my favorites in this challenge, and I gave you a bit of a reduction in regard to meeting the challenge, because when I think of beach, I think of sand, not simply any shoreline. Many people in this challenge just presented water or shoreline, and to me, that does not a beach make. I'd have given this a 7 or an 8 for technical merit and overall beauty, but decided on a 6 for the reasons above. |
| 07/25/2006 12:42:17 PM | A new look at an old friendby jdannelsComment: Great job! The colors in this are just breath-taking! The feel of the fog at night is extraordinary. It is interesting from corner to corner to corner. I'm giving this an 8 because it meets the challenge with technical precision and artfulness. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 07/25/2006 12:40:23 PM | Redby BeeCeeComment: Great job! I love the continuity of color between the ocean and the sand, and how the brightness of the apple sets itself apart, making it a true focal point. Also loved how you captured the reflection of the apple, and the fact that there wetness in the foreground. I loved the bubbles in the water as well. I'm giving this a 7 for meeting the challenge theme so well, and for the technical merit that this deserves. I'd score it higher, but there were just so many photos that had alot more going on in the way of interesting subjects. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 07/25/2006 12:37:32 PM | Palm beachby greslizzzComment: Great job! At first, the subtle colors in this gives the impression that there isn't much to look at besides the trees. After looking a bit longer, the hazy mountains in the background, the light bouncing off of the pits in the sand, and the darkened 'kicked up' sand in the foreground make it very interesting. I also love the way that the light plays in streaks on the saned. The only thing that is distracting is the carts or stalls, whatever they are, off to the left of the picture. I think had you cropped it so they weren't there, the photo would have been equally as nice. Above average score, I'm giving this an 8 because it meets the challenge perfectly, not leaving me to have to guess what the theme is, and because of all of the interesting things happening in this pic. I'd give it a 9, except for that stuff on the left of the pic. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 07/25/2006 12:35:36 PM | Just Thinkingby hotpastaComment: Great job! I loved the tonal aspect to this whole photograph, with the greys being predominant in the foreground and background, allowing the bird to blend in and stand out at the same time. The clarity in the bird is awesome. I'm not giving this as high as I'd like to because this could equally be on a city street as a beach, so in my opinion, it does not clearly meet the challenge, although I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt. I don't think that meeting the theme of the challenge should be left to guesswork, there should be some element in the photo to at least hint of the theme, and this one doesn't. Other than that, I'm giving it a 7 because it is still a nice shot! | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 07/25/2006 12:32:50 PM | Sea Foam crawling outby audinutComment: Great job! This one takes a minute to figure out what I'm looking at, but that adds to this photo, rather than take away from it. I loved the clarity of this photo, and the fact that I can see the little bubbles in the foam in the foreground. I loved the clarity of the sand, and it's hint at moisture. Good use of color! I loved the movement of the whitecaps. I'm giving this an 8, as it met the challenge, deserves technical merit, and for having a bit of whimsy to it. The real subject of this photo is only hinted at, but that is what makes it so interesting. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 07/25/2006 12:29:46 PM | Generationsby ZoomdakComment: Great job! This photo has alot happening. I really liked the colors in the sky, especially the red toward the right hand side of the rocks. I loved the silhoutte feel to this whole thing. I loved the reflection and calm that this photo generates. I also love the bit of haze that the bottom of the back rock seems to be arising from. I'm giving this a 9. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 07/25/2006 12:28:13 PM | Algarveby peeteComment: Great job! This is like looking at a traveler's postcard. I loved the colors and the perspective, but especially the color of the water. I got tired of looking at the typical northern deep blue ocean, and the typical 'caribbean blue' of alot of the photos in this challenge. The deep green is a breathtaking change of pace! I like the clarity of the photo, and the fact that I can see the movement in the sand, even at this distance. This is one of my favorites, so I'm giving it a 9. The only thing that looks odd, is the dark spot in the sand between the two cliffs at the bottom of the photo. Maybe you could have gotten that out of there to allow a continuous feel to that area of the beach. You should sell this to the Portugal Dept of Tourism... lol | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 07/25/2006 12:23:10 PM | nightswimming deserves a quiet nightby taseComment: Great job! I loved this because it sweeps me into the picture, a little bit of eeriness, combined with solitude and stillness. I loved the continuity of color within this whole shot. I am giving this a 7. |
