Although I understand that you are trying to relay a sense of peace that a church would provide, there is just too much here for me to look at, that I am visually distracted from the peace that it is trying to emit.

Although I sense some solitude in this shot, there is just too much going on here for me to be drawn into any type of serenity and peace. The multiple subject matter - the girl, the tree, just has too much interest that my mind is not calm when looking at this. It demands too much attention.

A very interesting shot. It is just that I'm not really sure that it emits the serenity that I'd like to see in a zen shot. In another challenge, maybe I'd score this higher. I love the creativity of this, however.

Going the Zen way

Although using black and white to minimalize visual distractions in this photo is a nice touch, it is just too busy to be 'zen'. I know what you are trying to realy in the vision of oposite (yin yang) of this photo, just to me, a highway, even empty, means movement, not calm. My eye is too distracted by the overall business of this photo.

Although this generates a sense of calm, there is too much detail here for my eye to be at rest. I'm drawn into the colors, the trees, those small details make it a bit busy in my opinion.

Although you did a great job creating an atmosphere that is easiy sensed as being 'quiet', the photo itself has too much going on in it to be truly 'quiet'. My eye is drawn into all of the details in this photo, the stones, the reeds, the path, the trees. All of this disrupts the atmosphere that you tried to create. Very pretty shot though!

Although the tonal qualities of this make it an unimposing photo, there is just too much action going on here for it to meet my standards of zen. Pretty use of color and light though!
