For an add, too bad with the reflex in "refreshing". Otherwise nice, good color composition as well

Thanks, Jeffrey.

Since I know from your shots that you have an A620 with UW casing, you should replicate it, but take it from below the surface instead, maybe even make the rings yourself and then shoot them.

To make the rings, point your mouth up, keep water as calm as possible, and make a short, powerful burst of air with a kissing mouth. Even at 10 to 15 feet, a good ring in calm water just keeps going and going, becoming larger, and thinner, as the one in the picture which is several feet in diameter. The rings are actually revolving around their core axis, and this is very clear to see, maybe a videoclip for once would be in order.

Go for it!

[quote=levyj413] Wow! Gotta love the macro on that camera. :) [/quote

Yes, as you know yourself, it is very versatile ... just needs a manual focus and a better movie compression algorithm for 640x480.

Btw, I heard from someone in the know that it is actually the male here who is the red-tailed of the two. Wonder if anyone can shed any light - not that it matters that much anyhow!

Nice capture, hooray for a good zoom and IS ...

I met a helo pilot who was involved in an accident in Greenland, where skiers were flown to remote mountain peaks for extreeme skiing. One skiier was injured and one of the helicopters went in to get him, also on a steep slope, but with one of the skids close to the snow (at a 90 deg angle from your shot, that is). When someone got off the shifting balance made the blades take the snow, and the chopper crashed, the turbine engine flew through the air, still turning and slammed down right next to the injured skiier. The pilot who I talked to was the one from the other chopper who then came in to pick everyone up.

EDIT: The helicopter that crashed landed on an improvised landing pad, the one that came in afterwards landed on skid on the hill ... see link below, one of them is a drawing.

So it is serious business to approach slopes like that, takes special training and skill I would presume!

Just found some pics and uploaded if anyone interested ... //www.dpchallenge.com/portfolio.php?USER_ID=60165&collection_id=18074

I did just that once, a looong time ago. It was carnival in the spring, and I took half my beard off, as above, and went around at the carnival for 2 days like that! I had even thought of getting 2nd hand clothes and make a half-suit half-vagabond outfit, to be the optimum walking schizo! That triptych made me think of those days, and there were many funny reactions - the best one being in a restaurant, waitress was taking our order from the table end where she could only see my bearded side. When I finally look up from the menu to face her, having forgotten about my looks, she saw for the first time that I was shaven in one side, and her reaction was just sooo funny!

If you evere go to a carnival, masquerade or whatever you call this, this is one of the most genuine outfits there is!

Just the posing itself says a lot about the atmosphere at the time ... I like it, and it would be interesting to see original.

Another great thing to try is to take a photo from below at an angle where you can see the total internal refraction occuring at certain angle. A setup I would have done was alone at a clear night, water quite calm, laying at the bottom taking photos straight up, and to the sides. Takes a fast lens and high ISO, but have you ever seen it? It is a great view, but it requires access to an outdoor pool at night, and to be yourself (for calm waters) to be able to see the stars, moon as well as lights surrounding the pool. Several times, I had everything except underwater casing ...

Wow, this is aaawesome, wish there were more shots like this! My most seen shot is also underwater, but the camera is above the water. This is so great because at first you just think it is with the sky as background, but you can see that special underwater look, as well as the underside of the water surface. Here, your open eyes and open mouth smiles makes you wonder at first, is it really underwater, or what?

Regarding the S2 IS, I think that there is no underwater casing available, and that is why you used the A620 for this I guess. Some day I would like to live by the ocean (where it is warm and clear), and get myself and underwater casing for my XTi!
