This is a very curious image, especially with the fire in the background. It makes the viewer wonder what it all means. The answer is in the petroglyph if you understand what it is.

This image would score higher if you could come up with a different perspective that emphasizes lines, curves or diagonals.

Good perspective, decent angle and nothing is overexposed. Focus is on the soft side. It is a decent, if not unique, photograph.

Viewers often wonder what this image looked like before it was artistically manipulated by the photographer in post processing. This works a lot better than most abstract images. It is taken at a good angle. DPCers tend to be more oriented toward "realistic" imagery more so than abstract imagery, particularly if it is accomplished in post processing, and the score you get with this picture will reflect that.

Very nice image and technically well processed. The horizon is bright but not overexposed like we see in many other lesser images. The reflection is gorgeous and the lines and curves of this image are great.

Nice lighting angle that works well for this type of challenge. There are sure to be voters giving it a low score because it is a flower. Don't know if the dandelion on the right adds much to the composition. You might consider applying the rule of thirds with this type of shot where there is a lot of black space. If you were to apply that rule then put it on the right side so the flower faces toward the area with the most black space.

Nice concept. Use of a lot of black space works very well. Having the subject looking at the camera is a good idea.

The general softness of the focus of this image may lead voters to give it a lower score than it otherwise would get. There is a light circle and dot on the far right side of the frame that is distracting.

This appears to be a light hearted spoof on the darkness theme. It is well frame and a good technical accomplishment.

Though touching and very appropriate for the challenge images like this may be too personal for DPC voters since many are cynical and could think that you just set this up for this challenge and that it is not "real". There is also some distortion of the of the image caused by your

If you had the hand in focus and the picture out of focus which is the reverse of what you did here it would better convey the idea that she is still alive and here on Earth but that he has passed on. A little extra lighting on the just the ring would emphasize you point even more.

There is some pincusion distortion on the frame that you may or may not wish to correct.

Good "dark" concept and a well done image. Your use of DOF works well. The focus is a little on the soft side along it's main focal plane.
