minerby guillermo21Comment: Technically excellent shot, although that might not be entirely to its advantage. All well and good if he really is a miner and that really is dirt, but the whole thing is so conscientiously set up and posed that I really couldn't say. |

Ode to Joyby MelethiaComment: Well, you know it's good, so I don't have to tell you that, but POW! didn't it work. I'll join the chorus of congratulations for having the arsehole to enter it. Thanks. |

Meditative Portryby raishComment: I seem to have started out on a vein of conceptual pics. The idea is better than the execution here. I tried to print the poem out on toilet paper, but that led to some time spent with a variety of utensils to clear all the little bits out of the printer before I could use it again. Still n all, it met with appreciation, not least from the Suck tribe. That's about the accolade we're looking for. Thanks :) |

11-butterflies.jpgby raishComment: Ah, Dolly Parton, that great country and western duet.
I had the photograph on the hard drive from about 6 years ago. They were pupils, but I guess they've moved on enough now and they wouldn't be recognisable anyway.
I have this link saved as a bookmark, and that's what I did to the photograph. After that I cut one of the butterflies out of the picture I showed earlier and pasted it 11 times, then free transformed and edited each layer and used blending modes.
So yes, I just knocked it out :)
Glad you like it, thanks.
Er - yes, they're swimming. Message edited by author 2006-12-04 18:52:21. |

Ivory Catby bryantbusComment: "It was hard to get the cat to stay in the light box."
Tell me about it. I have cats charging around all over the place (except when I'm not trying to take their pictures, of course), so I just fire off millions of shots in the hopes that one or another might turn out half-way decent. This is a great set-up and great capture. It's one of the ones I didn't vote on and it scored somewhere up in a rarified atmosphere to which I cannot easily adjust, but I'll swear it was well worth it, congrats. |

Ivory Netsuke on Old Laceby JuliBocComment: I didn't get to vote on this one. It's a lovely picture and it's under-rated in the voting. Guess the lace should have been whiter. Could have put it on a glass table and back-lit it? I suspect conspiracy against novices is at the heart of this disgracefully discriminatory voting though. Take heart - it is very unlikely that we will get any greener or suck any more :) Great shot. |

White Spiralby noranekoComment: There's a sort of genre to white (pale) on white photographs, in which the foreground object needs to be sharp and the background needs to be clean. (My entry doesn't comply with any of this, NB). This gets very close to it. I'd agree with a few comments that would have the shell a bit sharper, etc, etc, but the subject and composition are really good. I gave it 7. |

Gildedby MelethiaComment: This is a terrific photograph of a terrific subject. 5.8 isn't to be sniffed at, but I'd say it was worth more.
Well sucked! |
