For me, the composition isn't quite right.....I'm not feeling anything from this bird. There's no connection to me as the audience. Maybe if he were looking towards the camera more, or doing something that gave me a glimpse into his personality it would work better?

The lighting is kind of harsh, and I don't connect with the dog in this image - there is no emotion. Now if you had caught him lifting his leg on the hydrant...that would have been great!

As for the technical aspects of the picture, there could be some improvement....this comes across as a snapshot taken without consideration for the "scene". I see that you have tried to blur out the surrounding distracting elements, but it is best to position yourself so that they don't even appear in the shot at all unless they contribute to the shot in a meaningful way.

The lighting in this image isn't working for me. It's too harsh, gives a kind of creepy feel to the photo. Try shooting in natural light and note the difference in the feel of the image.
