Definitely in bad shape! I'm not sure that the left third adds much to the story. Cropped past the pole I get the sense that the tree would frame the car nicely.

I like the emotion I'm "seeing". They seem a bit bored, as if they have been waiting for a long time. I like the line of the hands from the top left to the bottom right. I agree, a larger aperture may help, but clearly you wanted us to see the background, and it looks like a very bright day. My critique would be to burn the headlight a bit so it does not distract from the child and crop out the right to the tree. Thanks for sharing.
