I think adjusting the brightness down a bit would help this a lot. The lighting is too harsh.

Hello from the Critique Club!

My first impression is very positive. This is a very dramatic shot on several levels. The lighting is what makes this shot. Keeping her face in shadows works very well with the cold hard background. Her pose, and having her hands bound as well as the stark background, all drive home the feeling of imprisonment.

The soft focus is probably what kept you from scoring higher. I really feel it fits this photo very well, but the general mentality of a DPC voter wants to see the subject in very sharp focus.

Welcome to DPC! You have done quite well for your first challenge entry and I look forward to seeing more of your work in the future!

Hello from the Critique Club!

I'm not much of a fan of high key shots, but this one works well and does not strike me as blown out. The black and white is well done and is complemented by the grain in this pic.

Being shot at 1/5 sec and ISO 800, this must have been done in fairly low light. Good job on your exposure control!

Your use of the blinds as negative space really works well. The grain of the photo looks very natural over what I am assuming are wood blinds. This really helps keep the grain from being overpowering and helps set a solemn mood.

Congrats on your top scoring photo so far!
