Is that the effect of clipping? Whatever, it does in my opinion make the image much more 2-D but at the same time emphasizes the solidity of the subject. In this case, it works well. Inverting images treated in this manner is also pretty effective.

The full edition is my favourite. I like the looking back in time view. Once upon a time, when I was in the far north of China, I had a man in a hut develop my black and white film. For one reason and another (times were poor) the film was damaged in developing. That natural noise (IMO) was the best. But yours is not too bad ;-)
