desolation of characterby tateComment: The shadows are a good idea and the interior too. The subject is not distinguishable. I wonder whether a person's shadow looking in the window would have completed the desolate story? |

All forgottenby terjeComment: Comparative desolation: a filthy canal in Brooklyn on fire. Graffiti and stains on the walls of a burned out house. Children growing up in cockroach infested homes. Your photo looks like paradise to me. But we will say it is artistic desolation, OK? 8. |

Moved Onby esdarbyComment: Cicada shells are fascinating. Did you ever see that exceptional image in the DPC files of a cicada emerging fresh from its shell on a lawn. It is amazing. But to get back to this image. I think it does in a science fiction-like way evoke a desolate feeling. Nice idea and something different too. |

Orphanby xianartComment: This photo took time and thought in order to bring it about. The charred ground might symbolize burned hopes and dreams. An adult in the dirt is something that makes one stop and look. I think it portrays and evokes feeling of desolation too. But it might make some feel uncomfortable. Perhaps you did it too well. |

the emptiness withinby GentleSoulComment: The harsh light and sick greeness work to make a feeling of desolation. It would be easy to add some unsightly props such as needles and syringes and what not. I'm somewhat glad you understated the image though, in that respect. |

Daddy Didn't Visit....Againby neenee1999Comment: Your title is like a lawyers leading question in court. It leeds one right up the garden path into believing. The image sits there awaiting the viewer. Both work very well together and evoke a strong sense of sad desolation. Considering many nations are littered these days with broken, divorced, one-parent families, this image I think can be understood by a wide audience. It is not repugnant - but very sad. |

Helpby EnnilComment: Looking out of the photo does seem to work to enhance tyhe desolate feeling in this image. The lone tree and dry grass are somewhat reminiscent of Andrew Wyeth's paintings. He was a master in the art of desolation. |

The Desolate Swimmerby ShermyComment: Arty desolation. Ironic we have to put some sort of prop into a desolate image to make it work better... ;-) |
