Those bricks surely tell a story of erosion. They're beyind repointing! They must be subject to some extremes to have worn like that.

Looks like a nice location. Green is rather hard, IMO, to make desolate. Green as a visual symbol implies verdent, fertile, all things bright and beautiful, if you know what I mean. Red rich soil tends to say something similar. I wonder if you had composed the image more through the broken old tunnel or bridge if there was a more desolate viewpoint which you could then have enhanced by reducing the saturation of the colours.

I can imagine a photographer with tripod on the overlook end (teetering perhaps to add drama).... You need to take two cameras and two tripods up there next time, Rikki (perhaps a mule to help out).

The background and the distant isolated jet plane enhance this image. It says a lot with a little. Nice format. The drop off behind the fence implies a vast unknown.

A desolated beach... just the way we like it.

Weather in the sky would have really emphasized the feeling of desolation. Removing the hues to b/w or duotone might have enhanced the concept as well. Deserted does not necessarily mean desolate.
