i was very lucky this day - the skies were insane. actually it was terry (clubjuggle) who first noticed this particular vista - the way the skies looked behind the capitol. funny, i still haven't seen his shots from that day (but one, his entry for this challenge).

i like the shallow dof and the angle., but might have deepened the dof enough to enclose the entire bloom head. i might have done a channel mixer conversion to emphasize the leaves more. as is, they get a little lost in the bg (more green channel).

the expression on the statue is beatific. almost as if she's indifferent to the disfigurement .. which of course she is. for some reason i am reminded of the saying 'cut off the nose to spite the face'.

the most compelling attribute of this image to me is teh way the shadow wraps softly around the image, lovingly, and tenderly. it reinforces the idea, along with the statues expression, that death is something that holds you, and is not to be feared. good work!

thanks to all who gave me such positive comments! I know this was a quite a good picture, but i'm pretty sure it didnt meet the challenge as strongly to the literal as many above it. thanks for letting me play :)
