Nice shot Janine. I'm sure in another challenge this would have done much better. As you know free studies are difficult. Not a bad score anyway. Nice colors and nice DOF. I do think your crop on top is a little tight. It looks like some of the flower is cut off. Happy shooting |

The After Partyby Jackson_HComment: Hello from the critique club...
I like this it reminds me of New Orleans mardi gras and all of those Masquerade balls. The lighting is good...even though I would have liked to see more detail in the chair behind her head. Your model is nice and the subject matter is nice. Good job. Happy shooting |

Nice portrait. I like the lighting setup. It really works with your model. Also the fact that you chose to do this in b&w is nice. There is one thing that bothers me though. The top of her hair knot is cut off. I would have liked to see the entire hair knot. Also a flower in the hair would have been nice but definitely not required. Overall good shot. Happy shooting. |

Moonglowby DrakeComment: Hello from the critique club...
I think you got robbed... You only got a 4.9....Come on people this is better than that. I think that this is an awesome shot...and technically difficult to do. There are nice textures. The shot is very clean and crisp. All of this put together make a very nice shot. The only thing I can think of is you got some DNMC voters. Happy shooting. |

The Cook.by romilComment: Hello from the critique club....
I will start out by saying that I do like your shot. It appears that others agree with me based on your score. However I am torn with the stickers on the glass on the left. Part of me sais the need to go....Then another part of me sais no they add interest too the shot. I do think they add interest but I don't like the fact that they are cut off on the left. Good job. Happy shooting. |

Hazards of 2nd place by gminkComment: Hello from the critique club...
You have good lighting. I like how the shot is frozen. However, your subject is almost non-existing. The wall of water really obscures the subject and takes away from the impact of the shot. Happy shooting |

Low Tideby QikiComment: Hello from the critique club...
Nice score for a free study. I like the haze on the horizon, That definitely adds to the overall shot. I love the look of the sand. The reflections are definitely nice. The sun is a bit intense...but it's supposed to be.
It looks to me like having the boats rest on their centerboards/keels would damage the boats. I guess not. |

Mow Challengeby HUETHComment: Hello from the critique club...
I think someone needs to mow their roof....lol I definitely like the idea of this shot. I do think it is a little oversaturated and a bit grainy. Also I would have brought the crop in a bit tighter on the right...eliminating that small triangle. I think that draws the eye too much. I do like the contrast between the sky and the roof. Definitely adds to the shot. Happy shooting. |

Devil's Valleyby BthxbyComment: Hello from the critique club....
You actually got me interested in this Devil's valley so I looked it up online. That must be a nickname because I didn't find any references to it around Macduff Scotland.
I also noticed that this was your 1st entry. Don't let a MEH score get you down. This site is all about learning the art of photography. This is an excellent place to learn. I also must warn you. Sometimes the DPC crowd can be tough.
OK now on to the picture. There are several things that jump out at me right at 1st that usually don't do well here. The sun spots in the foreground are pretty distracting. I have found that shooting directly into the sun can be pretty difficult. Also because it is so bright in the center of the shot you have lost some of the detail of the greenery. I do like your DOF (depth of focus)I just still wish I could see more detail.
Hey if you have any questions about this shot or any others PM me and I'll be glad to help out. I hope to see more entries. Happy shooting. |

Whilst Afloat on A Boatby PangurbanComment: Hello from the critique club....
Hey nice fish... I like the composure. Your crop is nice. The texture of the water and the fish's scales is nice. The lighting, I think, is a bit bright on the fish's underbelly. Some color has been lost. Not a bad shot. Happy shooting. |
