Go On...I DARE YA!! or DPhrustrationby dacrazyrnComment: Hi. I think you're going to be asked this question a lot: wy is the 9 on the Roll in the photo??? Does your subject imply that you dare us to give it a 9/10? Or is it a comment about a past rating you reeived? Or is it just there to make us ask questions? In any case, I find it extremely sad to see that 9 in there because otherwise your photo would truely merit a 9 or 10. Unfortunately, the 9 bugs me so much in this photo, I can't give it more than 7 (and I was tempted to lower it to 6). On the other hand, extremely well taken photograph. Excellent dramatic lighting that support the emotion in the subject's face. Excellent cropping. Excellent color. |

Not A Happy Pictureby DrJOnesComment: Thanks for all the comments everyone! I didn't think the photo would rate that high! But seeing that it made 4th place, it is quite stimulating to produce more. :-) Thakns again!
PS. ;-) Merci Mr. Dude!
PPS. Oh, and by the way, I got to give a lot of credit to my GF for accepting to pose for this pic. It was quite hard to convince her, especially when I told her "ok, what I want you to do is put your face on the toilet, oh, and I'll put some of your hair in the toilet too.". Well, it costed me a nice dinner at the restaurant... but it was well worth it! LOL! Seriously though, she did a great job. It was not easy to stick her head so close to the toilet like that. xxx Message edited by author 2003-03-03 18:35:35. |

Collateral Damage by ndsComment: Bravo! Excellent framing. I love your square cropping that goes so well with the squared windows. Fantastic location. Excellent color. 10/10 [the only ten in my book this week] |

despair: n. Complete Loss of Hopeby ChrisW123Comment: Extremely well shot image with what could be considered a cliche theme. There's been a few chess shots in this challenge. In my opinion, none were able to do it elegently as you. 9/10. - [added later: The more i look at your photo, the more i like it. There is so much emphasis on this white peon, I love it. Actually, the more I look, the more I think this shot is not about despair but more about courage. This looks to me as if he's defying the black army on his own. But it's just a question of personal interpretation. Great shot, really.] |

Bare Necessitiesby jaygComment: Very well shot. Without the title, there's no much despair in the photo though... 8/10, but because (to me) it doesn't meet with the challenge on its own, I give it a 6/10 |

Praying for Helpby CoreyComment: I'm not sure about the despair in this image all by itself. But very well framed and nice use of sepia. 6 |
