Nice idea, but poor execution unfortunately. The sky is way blown out due to the over all overexposure of this photo. I split ND filter would have helped tone down the sky. I would also lose the specific crop here in this photo. This classic subject has been photographed many times and thus requires special attention to composition, light quality, and exposure to separate it from the many other photos. There is allot of dead space at the bottom and top of the photo that could be cropped to give your subject attention it deserves. I personally would have cropped a third off the bottom, right, and top of the photo. Next time you shoot this subject, or one like it, take care in what your composition is in the viewfinder. It is always better to get the composition right then to crop mistakes later.

I think this photo has potential but there are a few things in my opinion that hold it back. I think if this shot was taken in morning or evening light it would have helped lessen the high dynamic range of this photo. Of course, getting to a scene during those times can be difficult. You may have also tried using a 2 or 4 stop split neutral density filter to help with the dynamic range. One other key thing is the horizon of this photo. It leans from left to right. That will kill a great shot. One last nit pick, if I may, is you may want to try a few different cropping ideas. For instance, crop out some of the blown out sky. Maybe even crop out a little of the shoreline on the right side of the photo.

Not to be all negative, I think you chose an excellent subject for this challenge and got a great reflection in the water. This creates a nice overall balance, a ying and yang if you will. You not only have the outline of the bridge and its reflection, but also all those nice âshapesâ called triangles. Keep shooting, and good luck!

This just goes to show you don't need lots of equipment to get a fine result like this picture. Great use of DOF! Congrats on your first ribbon!

Nice shot. It has a cool perspective and I love the way the rounded corners on the staircase conflict with the re-ocurring theme of hard corners. Supurb exposure and outstanding composition! Just added this to my Favs. Thanks!
