Right on about the holding. I actually have been learning a bit about creating frames, so I went to some of our materials we shot in September. I really like how they came out--makes the shot look more professional.

Thanks for both previous posts. This isn't a challenge shot, so I did what I wanted with it. I used PS to work with the background. The original had too much clutter in the background, so I created a second layer and blurred it out pretty completely. The next step was to select the eraser and take away the part of the blurred layer that I wanted the bottom (clear) layer to show through. I was pleased that the affect actually looked good.

You are absolutely right on the focus. I debated if I should post these, but am constantly amazed at the eye of my 9-year old. She hasn't mastered the settings yet, but she can certainly find a moment. We aim to have people like you help us in our photography (and you are), so we've decided to post even imperfect shots in hopes to identify some portion of the shot that is good. Keep commenting; it keeps us moving forward. And as far as Rylee is concerned, if she improves a little each year, I can't imagine what she will be able to do as a teenager. |

Thanks for the comment. I'm not sure if you think we should have her model more. If so, we plan to have her do more.

Don't know if you have the lense to isolate that area for a photo, but would really like to see how such a shot would turn out. Keep up the good work! |
Thanks.
It was a really bright day, and I don't currently have any filter--certainly on my Christmas list. Part of the problem this morning, was a nice green film toward the left side of the picture. I'm going to try to get up there again before the end of the year and take some more early morning shots. Thanks for your comments. |
| 10/26/2005 11:06:20 PM | Kids in the Windowby nowlinComment: Originally posted by Longreach: I don't think your score (or some of the comments received) for this image do it justice. The kids have been captured at angles, in poses and at distances from the camera to make it very interesting. This is a great age to photograph - faces are alive, and their eyes tell stories in themselves. I would possibly have cropped the image down a litte to remove the over exposed regions. Given the circumstances it may have been impossible, however, playing around with the camera position may have added to the reflection. I like the image and look forward to your entries to future challenges. |
Thanks for your comment.
My whole family is moving from snap shots to really producing artistic photography. I'm proud of my wife for getting this shot, because it shows me her eye is developing. I have to admit we took this in the proper time frame for the challenge, but didn't take it on purpose. We just wanted to get in the game, and this worked out nicely. We'll submit more with planning and creative thought. We'd love some comments on some of our portfolio shots. This site is exciting to us as future (on purpose) photographers because of the great atmosphere created by those who are willing to impart their experience and wisdom. |

Thanks for you comment. I looked at some of your shots, and you should know--some really nice lightning shots. I'll have to look into the filter. I'll look at the information when I'm at home, the file has all of the details there. This was a fairly active storm and only around 4pm, so I had the shutter speed fairly quick. I can see how making it darker with the filter would allow a longer exposure time. I'd love to shoot some more in the future. |

She has the gift of flexability for sure. We got this one just at the right time to show the top of the kick. Thanks for the comment |
