The Dressing Down by vawendyComment: Congrats on the Red!!! This has all the mood, period time, and lighting (absolutely love the light) of paintings by the Old World Masters such as Rembrandt and others of that era. I also love the humor of the piece where this gent is talking down to this 'mother hen'. |

For Those Who Love, Time Is Eternityby sjhulsComment: Congrats on the HM Jenn! A very poignant piece. Time does indeed have a hold on us. It sweeps us away and passes 'whether we want it to or not'. I love the texture on this piece because it gives it a sense of age - perfect since this visual art addresses the subject of Time. Just one observation I made: The 'hands of time' only represent two moments in time (11:40 and 10:09). It might have been best to have different times to represent 'time stands still for no one' or, upon, further reflection one can deduce that it represents those particular moments in time slipping away. |

The Dark Side of the Financial Crisis by gyabanComment: Don't know how to vote on this one at the moment (though I am very much a Stars Wars Fan and find this well done). I find my time is occupied more with the mechanics of the shot in that I am trying to figure out how you managed to pull it off in Advanced. Hmmm. O.k. perspective and angle is working for you here on this one. My best educated guess is that there is a contraption hidden behind the box & in the field; a platform that allows Vader to sit in that box making it look like it is floating above the fields. I'd go further in that the cardboard box is attached to that seat platform but maybe a few inches below it so that it can more effectively hide the contraption that allows Vader to paddle in the box. Angle helps to hide and give this illusion:-) |

Awww, what a sleepy dog! He looks like he is standing guard but he/she is so desperately tired the eyes have just drooped down and closed for a snooze:-) Lighting and B&W tones are great. The only critique I have is that I think the image grain is a wee bit too heavy-handed - especially where it peppers the woman in the backdrop. The grain there is too much that it appears like a crackled pattern. Pull back on the grain and make it subtle - I think that way will make it look better visually. |

I really like the composition with empty glasses acting as leading lines that draws the eye to the end of the bar with the waiting bottle off in the distance. Great details and lighting on the glasses. Image grain is well done as well giving it just the right amount of nostalgic feel/mood. |

Clock Typewriter and Telephoneby DistantColoursComment: Voted earlier coming back to comment.
I like that the objects you chose for this still life arrangement are all forms of 'tech' that have become outdated in the march to 'better' and improved technology (wrist watches will/are go(ing) that way too since now most just check their cell phone/Iphone for the time). The B&W tones and details are fabulous. The image grain is just the right amount without being heavy handed in giving that feel of age and times past. Not sure the off kilter pyramid arrangement works best for this still life. |

Music Manby Yo_SpiffComment: Great point of view that shows off the action of him drumming from a different angle. B&W tones are great. One critique is that I think the image grain is a bit too much. It feels a bit too 'gritty' that contrasts with the bright smile he has as he bands the drums. To me the grittiness contradicts the 'happiness' I see in the scene. Perhaps making the image grain a bit more subtle and not so heavy would have been better for the photo. |

Remembering Yesterdayby DCrest01Comment: Voted earlier coming back to comment.
Love that old camera and the old style photographs. This is a great still life and the image grain complements the arrangement. However, I do have some critiques as that I think there are a few things that could improve the visual impact. First off, there is just too much negative space around the main subjects that they 'swim' within the composition. Bring your audience closer to the main subjects so that we can see all the lovely details - especially in that old style camera. Second is that both the foreground (ground) and background just has way too much texture that it draws the eyes attention away from your main focus. A smooth, dark wood table would have been one possible choice to set the still life composition on. An old style secretary desk might have also been a good setting for these arrangement. Point is that the backdrop and foreground could be anything that did not have too much texture and would compliment the objects either by time era or period. |

Great capture of action! I love how you captured the one elephant in the act of leaning over to retrieve or get something from the little gully below. The B&W, and the grain, and even the framing makes this feel like this is an old photograph pasted into a memory photo album. A pleasant memory of a day at the zoo watching the elephants. |

Gossip In The Grainby HipychikComment: Voted earlier, bumping up, and coming back to comment.
Great capture of a barren tree in a barren field. The grain gives this a grungy and old, laying forgotten feel. Even the tractor sits lone out in this field where only the crows gather in the bare branches to squawk there noisy chatter. Only one critique/observation and that is a think the grain might be teensy bit heavyhanded as seen more in the sky. |
