Skyline, 2005by pawdrixComment: I can almost hear the sounds of the saxophone belting out a tune about the city . The city skyscrapers and harbor are decked out in hues of blue and black - the cities 'tuxedo' that it dons when putting on the ritz. The city light sparkle in the night. This is a very visually appealing photo. |

Ilulissat Fiord, Greenlandby pekeloComment: I really like the expanse of scenery seen here in this cold landscape. What adds visual interest is thos sharp spiky mountains seen in the background which really adds to the idea that this is can indeed be a very cold and hostile land. Also there are two lone birds (the ones resting lower are not as visible because their grey/white hues dissapear into the landscape) on top of the ice shelf seen on the right hand side of the photo that adds interest because it shows us life can exist here. I think you could easily have presented this composition by filling the frame with just those four birds standing on the ice shelf and the sharp spiky mountains in the background with a smattering of sky. A closer crop would call more attention to focus the viewers attention on the two elements of the birds and the sharp mountains. |

Fire dancerby psychephylaxComment: This is a good shot of a fire dancer as he lays posed on the ground balancing the burning stick on his raised leg. The play of light on his skin creates a warm orange hue that is complementary to the skin tones. The critique I have on this photo is that unfortunately his head/face is in shadow that we are unable to see his expression. If the viewer could see his expression and the face of this fire dancer it would go a long way to strengthening the visual interest of this photo. |

Jaalaby BobsterLobsterComment: The model has a soft and sultry look as she lays upon the pool table. Her poise of hand over the head and parted lips gives off a 'come hither' look. I have two critiques on this piece. I think you could easily strenthen the relation between the model and her environment to 'play' up on the voluptious and sultry mood presented. First had the model wore a shade of red lipstick it would visually tie into the red pool table ball seen here in the photo. The color red is also symbolic of passion and having a connection to those two objects would strengthen the connection that there is a sultry game to be played here. Second , I would have turned the black 8 ball such that the number is very visible to the viewer. This would help strenthen the visual of a game being played. |

Path to the mountby Mr TeeComment: Composition is really good. The foreground is interesting to look upon with all the craggy rocks and small pools of water. As our eye travels to the background we are naturally drawn to the mount and the 'castle' that rests upon it. That mount is centered in the middle top of the frame - again our eye is easily drawn there to travel up the path past the craggy rocks. The colors of the photo invoke a mood of a dark and stormy night. My only suggestion on how to improve this photo is keeping the mount in the same center position but the photographer to have physically moved such that the winding and curving road we see here is also dead center. This would act as a complementary 'visual path' that the eye would travel up to reach the top of the mount. It would beholve you to keep the foreground of the craggy rocks if possible because resting just a few feet beyond is what appears to be an 'L' shaped concrete 'path'on the left hand side of the photo. By lining up that concrete road to the be centered with the winding road in the background would also strenthen the composition by acting as a visual road that bridges the foreground and background together. It is possible that this change in angle maynot be possible for some elements may be lost - but it is certainly an angle worth exploring. |

The story of a hundred yearsby EnnilComment: Excellent composition on this portrait of a woman who has experienced many years. Frame is closely cropped to keep attention focused on this lady. We see the roadmap of her years and look deep into her eyes. The red around her eyes makes me think that she has been crying. Also the look in her eyes, to me at least, holds so much sorrow. The poise of the hand is as such that it speaks two things. One it is raised to the heavens above in a posture of emploring "Why?". The second is of pulling the hand away from the face after spending time reminiscing about the past that will never return. This portrait invokes such a response in the viewer that makes us stop and look upon this woman. |

Seabirdby ZoomdakComment: Oh great capture! Love how the waves are crashing on the rocks as this single lone seabird searches for a safe perch. Either that or it has taken flight from the rocks to avoid the crashing waves. I like the B&W presentation of this action shot for I feel that the power of the waves and the action going on would have been diminished had this been in color. Color could sometimes call attention away from the main subject. It is strongly possible that the white/grey hues on the seabird would have been lost in the white foam of the crashing waves. Here the action/scenery is dramatic with the two tones bringing out and hightlighting the scene for the viewer to enjoy. |

Japanese Brideby cfischlComment: The woman in the photo is a lovely model. However I think the composition would be greatly strenthened if the photo was composed as a head shot. I would have loved to have had a closer look at her facial features and the wonderful adornments in her hair not to mention that her hairstyle is of interest as well. A composition that tightly focuses just on her from her shoulders on up would capture and show us the beauty of this asian woman. |

Fogstarby lynnesiteComment: Wow, love the power and the play of this running horse. Love how you caught the action of running and the hair of the main and tail tossing. Also of interest is the poise of the horses head as it shakes it head the muscles in it's neck stand out and we get a sense of power of this magnificent beast. My only critique on this great action shot is that the composition could be cropped such that the main subject dominates the frame. Keep our attention focused on the power and beauty of this majestic horse as it runs by cropping out the unnecesary background. |

Christmas in Seattleby cabaComment: Love how this shapes from the window are included in this composition. It really adds a dramatic and artistic flare to the downtown scene of seattle. I love how one 'panel' you see the landmark Needle. Again the windows create an interesting shaped panel look that turns this downtown scene into a dynamic and dramatic eyecatching photo. |
