In Living Colorby cnsComment: Beautiful details on the butterfly! I absolutely love the bold & vibrant orange hue of the spread wings of the butterfly and the flowers it rests on. The colors really leap off the page. Great composition to wait or capture the butterfly with it's wings spread open for that is generally where all those lovely bold hues are. |

Ready For Flightby philupComment: Very nice details in this close-up of this ladybug - love how you can see some fine detail on this insect such as the tiny 'face'. Congrats on catching it crawling on the greenery - these little creatures can move surprisingly fast when one is still trying to focus:-) Lighting is wonderful for the subject and it's environment are illuminated very well. |

Baby Aphidby Pug-HComment: There are some very great details in this extreme close-up of this aphid's world - right down to the tiny legs and the eye on this creature. This photo really brings us an up close and personal view of this tiny creature that we would normally not see. Lighting is wonderful for the subject and it's environment are illuminated very well. Hmmmm, while a greater DOF would capture all the details of the foreground and background of the flower I wonder if that level of detail would greatly 'hide' the aphid from view - it certainly may make it harder to notice. Here the lack of detail in the front and back of the flower makes the eye travel to where there is a greater level of detail and thus we spot the aphid more readily. But if anytime in the future you do wish to get a greater DOF where both the background and foreground are in sharp focus and get lots of detail all you need is a tripod, a higher aperature setting (F8 or higher), and slower shutter speed (and hopefully the bug will not move when one is doing this;-) ). |

Don't Let Go!by jbsmithanaComment: Oh wow! First off, wonderfully captured details in the bee! And the colors in the photograph are wonderfully vibrant. Great capture in the action - this little bee really does appear to be 'holding' on for dear life forgetting that it has wings and can simply just fly off. Love that little gleam in the eye for it projects the 'spark' of life in the insect. |

Before the battleby kevip6Comment: Love the frozen moment in time where it looks like the spider and ladybug will do battle for survival. Tis a shame that the spider was not posed above the leaf where the viewer would be able to view the full detail of the spider while the ladybug is under the leaf - sort of a hide-and-seek shot. But one has to take the opportunity when one can and take the photo. There are some nice details in the close-up of the ladybug. I love how you can see the 'face' of the ladybug in full detail as well as those long reaching legs of the spider that menace the resting ladybug. The lighting is simply wonderful for the subject and it's environment are illuminated perfectly. Some portions of the body of the ladybug and spider are not as in sharp focus as others but that is too be expected when doing a macro/extreme close-up -especially if there is action going on. If anytime in the future you do wish to get a greater DOF where both the background and foreground are in sharp focus and get lots of detail all you need is a tripod, a higher aperature setting (F8 or higher), and slower shutter speed. |

Social Butterfliesby cajayComment: What is absolutely stunning about this shot is the level of detail and gorgeous coloring on that green butterfly in the forefront! It looks like it has little sparkling jewels on it's wings. Love the colors and lighting on this one - and the title goes very well with the action in the photograph too:-) The other two butterflies in the background are not as in sharp focus as the one on the foreground but that is too be expected when doing a macro/extreme close-up. If anytime in the future you do wish to get a greater DOF where both the background and foreground are in sharp focus and get lots of detail all you need is a tripod, a higher aperature setting (F8 or higher), and slower shutter speed. |
