Wonderful arrangement of ingredients in this composition. Very colorful and full of flavor:-) The lighting for the most part is good. But there is just something that just doesn't quite make this pop. Hmmm, looking critically I think it needs just a bit more lighting to make the white backdrop really bright white. As it is here it is a dull white which doesn't quite allow the ingredients to really visually pop off the page like I know they could. For example take a look at the chopped red onions the white there is whiter & brighter than the backdrop & foreground. Other possible suggestions to get the whites whiter in basic editing is to adjust the White Balance meter on the camera before you take the shot if you can. Another possible way to brighten the scene is to use the flash - but to put a tissue paper in front of the camera flash so that it diffuses the light so that you get none of the harsh shadows/reflections that can occur with a full on flash. Still, a wonderful capture that earns an 8.

The dish is also wonderfully arranged with the composition. The lighting illuminates your subjects wonderfully such that the viewer can fully appreciate the food set on the plate before them. Wow! The colors and the details are really stand out fabulous! Lighting is excellent and I love the 'steam' rising from the bottom - I STILL have not figured out to effectively capture smoke in my photos. Kudos to you for capturing it so well in this photo. Love how the colors and textures of the salad sticks really pops visually off the black background. Your composition of elements is not only eye appealing because of the bold colors but interesting because of the textures we see in the baby corns, asparagus and celery. (out of curiosity, don't know exactly what the white salad stick is Jicama is a guess). Good lighting, good focus, good composition of elements 8.

Garlic Rosemary Grilled Shrimp and Ahi Tuna

Superb capture of the grilled shrimp and tuna on the grill. Lighting is excellent and the focus shows us all the yummy details. Love how you composed this to show us the food on the diagonal so that we can see the flames of the grill in the lower left half. It just adds another pleasing element to the composition such that we not only feast our eyes on the meal but we can almost feel the heat & smell the grilling spices. Good work on this one 9

Can you cut it like fish sticks?

Love the processing - makes the photo really pop. Great lighting, great focus, and nice composition. It really captures the feel of being there (minus the smell I am sure:-) ) of standing there at the fish market. I like this photo for it captures a moment and feel of a slice of 'culture' that has largely disappeared due to large supermarket chains.

Family Portrait - Hicks

I absolutely love what you did in the final composition! You have made the child the Main focus of the shot with the parents on either side as the 'supporting' cast. Children are a combination/result of the pairing of their parents (both in physical looks and behavior) and here you show us that very strongly. With just the half of the mom's face on the left and half the dad's face on the right, the two halves hold in place the combination of them both - the adorable little girl! Two halves combine into one whole! You would not get that visual symbolism with the original but with the final composition is sings out strongly. The close crop also eliminates the more distracting elements of the wall that was behind the family. With this crop you bring us closer to observe the family as a strong unit. I also love what you did with the processing - the bump into brightness/contrast levels by moving it into a high key approach and the desaturation of the strong color tones (such as the pink of the girl's sweater) really shines the spotlight on the family's faces. Wonderful job!
