The breath of morning
whispers over the water.
Dawns pale glow washes
over trees and lake.
Water sloshes off
her swarthy snout
as she munches a
morning meal.

My feet keep a steady pace as I follow the poured road down the hill. Autumn chill carries the scent of crisp, maple leaves and the golden aromas wafting from the sugar shack. I quicken my pace this morning craving that rich, amber syrup poured over a hot stack of pancakes.

It was a lovely 60 degrees and the sun cast a warm glow. Clara decided it was a good Saturday to buy a cup of coffee and sit down on a bench at the local park.

She had made a resolution to read 50 classic books this year. She choose a spot near a tree close to the Cathedral but not under the shade. In the glow of the sun, Clara took a sip from her coffee and cracked open the book. The gold letters along the spine were faded, but still readable was the author's name: P.L. Travers.

The shadow of the tree had crept up on her when she heard the cooing of birds that broke the stride of turning pages. Clara looked up and saw a woman in a yellow jacket feeding the pigeons. Clara smiled, began to hum the tune, Feed The Birds and returned her attention to the adventures of a magical, English nanny employed by the Banks' household at Number Seventeen Cherry Tree Lane.

Muskoka Chairs

Sam woke early to set up his gifts, brew the morning coffee and make the omelettes. Juliet was still asleep and he took care not to wake her. Sam took a glance out the cabin window. He had purchased the chairs a two days ago and had to keep them hidden until today. One straight backed for him, the fan support for her; they were the perfect shade of red that she loved.

He hadn't truly realized how difficult it would be to carry them out to the dock and not make a sound. Sam wasn't getting any younger and the weight of the chairs reminded him of that. This morning would mark their 40 years of marriage. Sam reached into his pocket to make sure the little black box was there. He hadn't given her anything expensive in a long time. Juliet had simply told him that sharing a simple & well-cooked meal and another year with him was quite enough. It had been a rough two years battling the cancer but he was always at her side whenever she needed.

Together they would sit this morning to watch the sun rise. Sam would present his wife with a ruby bracelet. Red - the color of passion...and a zest for life.

She remembered the sparkle of sun and the salty breeze.
Warm summer days with joyful leaps into ocean waves.
Though the sand castles washed away by day's end,
She could still hear his laughter, tinged gold by the sun.

He had been reading about the Pony Express in school. Those brave and fast riders. "Wow, now they had cool adventures," as he learned more about them. Mom just popped into the grocery store for a quick run on milk after taking out a $20 from the bank. Taking a quick glance right then left to make sure no one else was around, the boy leaped into the saddle. He and his trusty horse Sandy, off on the next great adventure! Rain or shine, through the Savage lands and Badlands - the mail HAD to get through! The quarter fed horse never once moved. It did not need to for the young boy's imagination took him on a ride through the American West.

Thanks for sharing this little slice of life - it tells quite a story:-)

Congrats on the blue! Groaned when I saw the pun title but it works:-) Great lighting and composition is well done (although a bottle and cup of saki would pair better with the take-out Chinese). Your back story is a great illustration of what we crazy photographers will do for the shot:-)

So this is what happens when a person goes in after their dropped Iphone:-):-) (You laugh but I know a friend who accidently flushed his phone). Grats on the red- very well done shot and the humor aspect helps catapult this to the top.

Grats on such a great capture. Details on the hummingbird are wonderful. The tilt of the head matches the lines of the flower petals.
