Street Vendorby BenstedComment: Voted earlier coming back to comment now.
Even though there is some odd criss-cross haze patterns in the space under the umbrella and that it is not in sharp focus the blur & haze really capture a cold and wet rainy day where the draw of something hot & warm draws us towards this vendor. I like that you made this B&W for it complements the mood whereas full color I think would not be as effective. |

Reflections by bobkComment: Voted earlier coming back to comment and bump up.
Upon further study of this I find that the colors and the everyday shapes reflected make for an interesting collage that holds the mind's eye. The blues and gold hues that dominate make it appealing in that just the two tone color palate does not collide or overpower the street reflections and thus one can appreciate the shapes of things. |

I don't know what exactly this is but I do know that I find the fluid sweep of curves and color very appealing. This piece is a great abstract where the bold colors and the freeform sweep of curves just dominate the eyes attention. |

You Are the Beat of My Heartby ursulaComment: Voted earlier coming back to comment.
Love the soft pastel hues and the simple delicate shapes of the flower as it spans outward from the left hand corner of the composition. The picture gives a strong sense of 'touch' with those pastel colors and the soft focus of the petals. |

A Lone Crossing - Dedicated to Shez.by docpjvComment: Voted earlier coming back to comment.
This is a very powerful piece and wonderful dedication both to Shez and the human spirit to persevere in the river of life. I love that you made this B&W so that your viewers can better appreciate the action and meaning of this capture. There is a thin line bridge that offers safe passage to the other side. Fall off this bridge or chose to cross where there is no path and the sorrows of life and or hardships will sweep you away. At different points in our lifetimes we either cross this bridge - or we don't. There is always the option to stay on the other side of the river but to do so means one stays stuck/trapped with no hope of progress or relief. Though the path across is narrow it offers the safety of the other side - where there are stairs leading up. For this lone person who faces those stairs, the stairs leading up hold the promise of hope and a better tomorrow. |

The Elegance of The Fallby OzComment: Voted earlier coming back to comment.
Absolutely great capture. Love the leading lines of the dock that extends our vision out to the horizon. The person caught in flight diving off in to the water captures and holds my attention and imagination. The dock is like that of a runway where 'man' then takes 'flight'. He is suspended midair before he explores the wild blue yonder of not the heavens above but the blue of the water. He takes the plunge/leap that promises refreshment and enjoyment. Very well done action capture and also symbolic storytelling. |

droopy tulipby LawtonComment: Voted earlier coming back to comment.
You have many good elements here but it just needs a bit better lighting and a little bit more on the composition placement. First off the lighting is a bit flat that it doesn't allow the tulip to visually pop off that yellow backdrop. Better lighting would add more defining highlights, shadows and tones that are different from the backdrop (one light from above at a 45 degree angle, and one from a below at a 45 degree angle both shining at the head and stem of the flower is what I would try). As it is now, the yellow tones of the tulip in some areas blend in so well with the tones of the backdrop. Second the compositional placement is good but could be a tad better. I like that you have the head of the flower in the bottom left corner in the composition but to create visual symmetry and a pleasing balance to the eye you need to place/get the stem to arise out of the bottom right corner. |

Another Afternoon at Mr Gormley's by PaulComment: Voted earlier coming back to comment.
While the rest of the environment is in sharp focus and detail the people are not. The people are surreal in a real world room. There are the common everyday objects of the tub, the chair, the windows and the mirror but amoung them are the uncommon/blurred objects - people. The everyday objects are static and still - the man & woman are not they are in motion placing them in a different realm. The nude woman seems to hold the mirror like a shield, hiding/protecting herself from the man captured within. The reflection of the man stands within the confines of the mirror and takes on the errie aspect of a lurker. He is faceless and not in sharp detail - while not in the room he adds a sense of tension as we know not what the intentions or actions will be that follows. |

Chinatown Under the Snowby OzComment: Voted earlier coming back to comment.
B&W tones are great. Interesting street capture of the everyday with something a little extraordinary - the snow. While this is a good street photography shot it needs that extra something to make it more compelling for the viewer to stop and linger awhile to take in the scene. I am finding it difficult to find an element that is the main subject of the shot. If the woman by the flowers was holding one up and inspecting it - that action would be different from the rest of the scene thus drawing our eye into her and her actions being the main subject of the composition. |
